Tell me the worth of a life
While so many debate health care, war funding, help for the homeless, the unemployed, and the poverty stricken (etc) real people are dying waiting on our elected people to save them (which is what these wars were about right? Saving us from being killed?).

Maybe they are just a stat to someone to use in their arguments.

But to me they are real, because in many ways I am one of them.

While we struggle to find top notch care for my wife here folks in other countries don't have to worry about it. Sure, their system may not be perfect but at least they have some options many don't have here.

In what was once said to be the greatest country on earth we sit around now debating about financing education, health care, aid to the poor, and so on - while easily passing more funding for wars based on lies.

Where the hell did we go wrong?

People here are suffering, but instead of our money going to save them and make life better for us all it goes to bombs and things like FISA.

What is a life worth here?

The real threat is not out there, it is HERE - it is not in Iraq or Afghanistan, the things which are killing us now aren't terrorists and planes, the things killing us are a lack of good physical and mental health care. It is poverty and not caring about one another enough that lead to more deaths each year than anything else.

I listened to your patriotic songs tonight, and yes they stirred me - but not against an enemy a world away, they made me want to grab your ass and show you the real enemy that is attacking us: lack of compassion and care for one another.

You think people a world away will great you with flowers and parades when you 'save' them from what ails them - well I will tell you we will do the same here if you ever take the fucking time to give us the aid we need.

You wanna save lives here, then quit spending money on bombs and start spending it on what folks really need.

You tell me the worth of a life, and I will tell you back that it is not measured in dollars but in action for your fellow citizen.

Worry all you want about the next bomb, I will sit here and worry as many do about the next meal and how I will pay for the meds and care those I love need.

You lie. Because the truth is for you that it is easier to kill and conquer than it is to face the truth at home.

Killing is easy for you.

Saving lives is a lot harder.

Shame on you all in both parties for not fighting the real war here.

Politics is not saving lives, it is costing them.

bushco has brought his evil wrath on all of us except his base.It is a sad time and I am in mourning for all we have lost !!!!
I hope that your wife gets the medical help she needs, she deserves the best.
Ithink of her often and if we get a health care bill passed I hope she is at the top of the list.I also think you are a wonderful husband and human being.

2. I think the people want something more
And I just cannot get why we don't get it.

Fuck Politicians, I am about done with em. We keep asking for the things we need and they keep getting pushed away.

Thank you for your kind words, I need some tonight for a lot of reasons.

Hard here in CA with no one to talk to, DU is my outlet :)

Look at Obama - FISA - I can never forget him for that.

Kissing ass on Iraq War, 2nd Amendment etc...

Thoughts and prayers out to you and your wife for her health problems.

3. Its morally outrageous.
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 01:09 AM by napoleon_in_rags
Just tonight I had a sore throat, thinking maybe it was step. The conversation is then about deductibles and timing and blah blah instead of just GOING TO THE DOCTOR and getting a swab. At other times in my life, the only choice would have just been to let it go and end up in the ER, turning something with a $50 cure into a $6000 expense. Its completely fucked.

Its this level of delusion we have in this country...I saw these rich folks, who were selling their home and sending money to Africa to feed the poor (which is awesome) but it got me thinking about how unwilling we are to see the poverty in our own midst. Its always over there, its always them, never US. Hearing the Iraq war justified on moral grounds (claiming we are helping Iraqis) is another example. Why are conservatives willing to spend 700 billion dollars on "helping" non-US taxpayers so readily but bitch about domestic programs of a fraction of the cost? When did they decide Americans are infinitely wealthy superhumans who never need help themselves?

Perhaps its the effect of the years of "America is #1" propaganda that makes people think that the American people can be drained and drained and never crash. I think we're in for a rude awakening to that belief, especially if we continue at our current course.

The thing is, you have to ask at some point if human beings are WORTH it, if we are worth investing in. IF we are, than the answer is to build a just and strong nation where all are taken care of before turning to face the world. If not, than we have absolutely NO FUCKING BUSINESS with all these wars.

6. Killing people and stealing their stuff is easy
Saving the lives of people you don't like is a different story.

I think that's where the disconnect comes from- the RW would rather pour gasoline on most other people and set them on fire than take the time to understand other people and acknowledge their right to be treated in a decent fashion.

It's a hard call on our side- if we treat these people well, they consider us weak. If we don't, we're simply doing what they do.

Such a cancer, these bloodthirsty people are...
