Who would you love to see performing (musically) at the Convention?

Here's my list:

Sheryl Crow (supposedly, she's what Obama is listening to on his IPod lately... and she's great live)
John Mayer
Sara Bareilles

For the boomers, bring in Stevie Wonder (Obama loves him) and maybe see if you can reunite most of CSNY.

What's your list?

bruce springsteen - i think i heard he was

Their big tune is something of an anthem, and it totally kicks ass.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY1Bl4nfpdA

I found their words to have great truth, particularly that part of finding one's soul while not searching for it.

6. Too bad this convention is seen as nothing more than a rock concert.
There are afterall, MORE IMPORTANT issues at stake here than which celebrity is most appropriate for the nominating convention of a political party.

How about speakers? Hillary? Bill Richardson? Joe Biden? Jesse Jackson? Bubba?

I don't want to hear millionaires who fly everywhere on private jets and languish on yachts in the Carribean tell me what I need to hear. People with carbon footprints that rival that of SASQUATCH compared to the average Lisa, Biff, or Jethro have nothing to say to me.

10. That's great. I'd love to hear his thoughts on what this country needs
expressed in words rather than song. At the podium, rather than "onstage".

Why don't we just can all the musicians and show "V"? I'd much rather watch a well thought out movie using social commentary to make a point rather than a musician trying to sell their latest CD.

Just another example of giving our money to "them that gots".

Unless they agree to show for FREE, or donate any profits to charity UP FRONT.

16. When I see a post with links that says they're not being paid to perform
I will not apologize to everyone who thinks musical acts make a point at political nominating conventions.

To me, it's wrong to put our political eggs in the basket of millionaires who don't practice what they preach.

7. some New Orleans musicians and ...
...some labor types. Campaign on the righteous history of the Democratic Party via jazz and protest songs and some long-ago blacklisted performers.

The Marsalis family. Pete Seeger (although he may be too lefty to want to do that). Harry Belafonte.

Incidentally, I'd REALLY like to see the Smothers Brothers perform. Instrumental in raising anti-establishment sentiment, they were cancelled by ABC television many decades ago. Let them advocate for free speech once again.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought of the Chicks.

Not only are the talented, they had the guts to say what they thought of * when he was riding high in the polls.

Sheryl daring to challenge Rove to his face. Too bad the media won't follow her lead.

22. The GOOP Convention Is More Fun...
A black friend of mine called watching Chaka Khan "perform" at the '04 GOOP convention as a reverse oreo cookie...a black surrounded by white. Look at all the great performers who will be in Minneapolis:

Ted Nugent
Charlie Daniels
Gladys Knight (without the Pips...still doing Geico Commercials)
The Oak Ridge Boys
and
Orrin "The Rock That Never Rolls" Hatch

Hey, maybe we can get a reunion of the "Singing Senators"...give Larry Craig a big lead on "I'm My Own Grandpa"

29. I don't care really.
It's not a concert. It's a serious meeting at a very precarious time in history for us.

I also don't give a shit what kind of dog they get or what designer Mrs. Obama will favor.

I realize these things are important to some folks. Just not to me.

My two cents for what it is worth.
