Tonight, did many of us see the birthing of a meme?
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 06:41 PM by Husb2Sparkly
I wanted to throw high, hard fast ones at the teevee screen.

Matthews' big yellow head, of course, is at the center of this.

He and Mitchell and Fineman were discussing Obama's Excellent Adventure in Iraq. All three (with Mrs. Greenspan singing the aria) droned on and on about some completely contrived perceived adversarial relationship between Saint David of Petraeus and "Barack" (as Matthews loves to call him - to diminish him?).

In response to a question asked of him - and that had NOTHING to do with anything these three village idiots were yammering about - Obama said something to the effect that it is the "Commander in Chief"'s job to decide, for example, whether or not to spend 9 billion or 10 billion in Iraq and how much to pump into domestic programs. It is the generals' jobs to get the assigned task accomplished, the stated goal met.

Mrs Greenspan described this as 'supreme confidence' (said in way to imply arrogance). Matthews agreed. Fineman, as usual, added nothing resembling intelligent discourse.

They batted this back and forth, complete with out of context clips, for the rest of the segment.

The meme?

Obama will try to cut the balls out of the generals' nutsacks.

WHICH IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT HE SAID.

Who else saw this segment? Am I imagining things?

1. If there were a meme launch today, it was that "Obama is the darling of the media"
And the opposite, of course, that McCain is a good man fighting to gain respect from the liberal media.

2. I think you're being a bit dramatic, stinky.
What I heard was how much of a difference Obama intends to provide by not letting the military set the agenda like * claimed to do (though he didn't). That's confidence, and was mentioned.

I thought the message was fine, even if Mitchell called Obama 'cocky'.

4. Yanno, sis ......
.... maybe I'm overly sensitive about this sort of thing ...... and maybe I misread it tonight (although, with all due respect, I don't think so) ...... but I am hearing less and less positive stuff about Obama and more and more "Poor Maverick Johnny" crap from all the yammering yammerers lately.

And Matthews' ***constantly*** calling him "Barack" against Captain Combover being called "John McCain" or "Senator McCain" ....... ***totally*** frosts my ass. I find it dismissive, diminishing, and disrespectful.

5. I'm reading more and paying less attention to the m$m; their 'job'
is to diss Obama, despite their difference ways of doing so. Some are way worse than others. KO is on; he'll make you feel better. As for Matthews, that should be a new activist activity. I may throw the idea over there.

McCain Meltdown

Posted by Joe Klein

John McCain said this today in Rochester, New Hampshire:

This is a clear choice that the American people have. I had the courage and the judgment to say I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war. It seems to me that Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign.

This is the ninth presidential campaign I've covered. I can't remember a more scurrilous statement by a major party candidate. It smacks of desperation. It renews questions about whether McCain has the right temperament for the presidency. How sad.

This coupled with the extreme whining about the media by McCain and Co. makes the McCain campaign look like a little league team trying to play against the pros. The smell of Desperation is overwhelming.

7. That does reek of desperation. I guess McSame really did himself
no favour when he suggested Obama visit the middle east cause now he has to do a rain dance (one attack after another) the whole trip to try and stop any points Obama scores.

9. Lose WHAT war? All I see is an occupation.
And as of 10:17 EST, July 22, 2008, I've YET to see what McCain considers Victory.
