Senior aides to former Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales broke civil service laws by using politics to guide their hiring decisions, picking less-qualified applicants for important nonpolitical positions, slowing the hiring process at critical times, and damaging the department’s credibility, an internal report concluded on Monday.

Monica Goodling, a former Justice Department official, testified before Congress in May 2007 at the height of the scandal over the firings of nine United States attorneys.

A longtime prosecutor who drew rave reviews from his supervisors was passed over for an important counterterrorism slot because his wife was active in Democratic politics, and a much-less-experienced lawyer with Republican leanings got the job, the report said. ..

1. It would be a shame if Goodling was the only one...
...to have charges brought against her.

I fully expect that the GOP will excuse her party loyalty.

3. No surprise here- just another demonstration of the criminals who have been running our country.
They rigged the elections, bankrupted our economy, murdered, maimed and displaced millions of people including our military, spied on Americans, supported and ordered acts of torture- 35 of them as I recall, that Kucinich brought to the Congressional floor a few months ago. Then we had last Friday's Charade - the non-impeachment hearings. The spineless Democrats are doing nothing to hold these criminals responsible - so this is nothing but more of the same.

I'm so disgusted by their behavior I'm trying now to learn how to simply tune it all out. I want to become one of those "typical Americans" who watches the evening news, reads a bit of the newspaper and pays attention once in a while when a story captures interest- like when Brangelina had twins.

I'm so damn sick and tired of being disappointed, disgusted, furious, etc. over the non-actions of my own party. I get it- they were only a majority recently but they KNEW much of this was going on and they did nothing then and continue to do nothing now.

Very sad, indeed.

4. Jail? Of course not. These lying pricks are better than us.
We are the lowly peons. 'We the People' don't know what we're talking about when we say that laws should not be broken. We cannot rob a bank and the law say, "Oh well. He made a bad decision. Let's just call it 'lesson learned' and remember to do better in the future." These criminals should be in jail and in jail NOW! I think 'We the People' need to make a citizens arrest. Otherwise there will be no 'We the People'. No matter who gets elected. :dem:

5. Journalist trying to interview a progressive radio listener
I have to post to a bunch of threads before I can start my own discussion, so here goes:

Hi, I'm a journalist with the Religion News Service in Washington DC. I'm writing a story on progressive talk radio - people like Ed Schultz, Bill Press, Rachel Maddow, etc. - and I want to talk to a listener.

If anyone is willing to talk, my number is (202) 661-0145.

Thanks.
