Desperation has to be setting in, in DC..
Just think about the THOUSANDS of "connected" people whose jobs are going to be ending in 6 months..

All those republican hangers on must be sweating bullets about now, trying to line up jobs for after the evacuation.

Many will have to face the facts.. Their lifestyles will change BIGTIME. Some will land on their feet, and get jobs at think tanks, right wing lobbyist offices & maybe even write a tell-all book of their own, but the majority are little fishes..

When their congressperson/senator gets booted out on his/her ass in November, these folks will find themselves jobless, and uninsured in a newly democratic town.

It's not inconceivable, in the nepotistic world of politics, for a whole family to be losing their "jobs".

While I feel for their children, I cannot work up much sympathy for the parents who will now have to figure out how to keep that $1200 a month COBRA payment...or how to pay for a family move to a home state, far away..

For every high powered "assistant", there have to be dozens of lower echelon people whose philosophy GOT them their jobs, and now will be useless to them..

What goes around, comes around.. enjoy the trip, folks..

1. While I generally agree, look at the cover story they're laying down.
Suddenly, we're being told a poll of likely voters shows McCain UP 49-46?!

That's the kind of thing that is a harbinger to an election theft scheme. They're already starting to "explain" how McCain could really be AHEAD, even though we know 49% say they'll vote for Obama and 40% say they'll vote for McCain. They're setting up the "Obama voters are young or others who don't vote as much" meme to cover a theft attempt.

They WILL try to steal it.

2. I want to know WHERE the people the polled, live
Do they live in Appalachia?? or in "conservative" areas?

I know that there are ways to make a poll say whatever one wants it to say, so I really get pissed when the media takes these lame-o polls & then magnifies them..

3. Pollsters are BUSINESSES. They work every year, not just elections.
They work mainly for big business, helping businesses sell the world their products. They are all compromised, some totally, some only partially.

The polls done for USA Today are notoriously conservative, because the man who reads USAToday is usually a business conservative. That who stays in all those hotels and that's who doesn't want to read the local newspaper when he's in Budafuck, USA.

12. I agree wholeheartedly. did anyone here really think they would steal so much power just to
turn it over this year? The media has been pushing the Clinton defectors and pummelling Obama on nontroversy (hats off to the DUer who came up with this term), in anticipation of another election surprise. The pollsters are using polling numbers that fail to cover younger folks who live w/o landlines (which is a huge segment.)

Rove, Tim Griffin and the other GOP sleazeballs are targeting foreclosure lists, and purging voter rolls as we speak. I really believe there will be some great tragedy just before the election to seal the "excuse" deal.

I think it would be wise for us to realistically anticipate what we as Democrats will do if the "business as usual" election results indicate a McCain win.

15. They're purging voter registration rolls everywhere.
They're setting up entry barrier to voting. They are actively trying to limit the number of voters in a more wide scale manner than ever.

They hate democracy. They want Show Democracy, like Stalin, not real democracy.

4. First They'd Better Look for Legal Defense
It's hard to make money in jail, and lawyers don't come cheap. It's not like the GOP-voting, REAL lawyers are worth anything without bribes for the judge and jury, and the Fundie lawyers are worse than useless....

Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 06:02 AM by NeedleCast
Every morning I hit the subway parking lot here in the DC area, I see more cars with Obama stickers. Started out as just a few, now there are dozens. McSame stickers...maybe one or two.

6. Please tell me that's not Takoma Park....
'cause that's just a given. Any other station... well, that would be serious progress.

However, I have to agree with the premise of the OP - There is going to be serious upheaval in DC this time around and with another batch of Republic Congresscritters leaving, the overall impact is going to be much larger than in 2006.

I also take exception to the idea that lobbying firms are going to be able to absorb any number of out-of-work (R) toadies. The lobbying firms are going to be downsizing their Republic ranks as well, to better reflect the make-up of their target audience.

The highest ranking aides and former office holders might find a place in the lobbying firms, but far more of them will be slinking out of town and back home - to destroy the democratic process at the local level in an attempt to regenerate the GOPs relevance over the next three or four election cycles.

A heads-up to those of you who are soon to be saddled with these people: Paint them as Republican, Washington, Neocon, NAFTA, WTO, TERRA, TERRA, TERRA insiders immediately. Don't even give them a chance in your local elections, or you will live to regret it.
