July Ratings: Countdown grew 49% year to year (with Keith and Rachel!)

Countdown with Keith Olbermann grew 49% year-to-year in the A25-54 demo. The program came in second in the demo at 8pmET during July, averaging 334,000 to CNN's 192,000 (excluding July 4). Rachel Maddow filled in for Olbermann nine times of the 20 weeknights this ratings period. The O'Reilly Factor, again, finished in first place in the demo and in Total Viewers.

In prime time (8p-11p, Monday-Sunday) MSNBC was up 25% in the demo compared to last July.

Individual programs up year-to-year in the demo include Morning Joe from 6-9amET (up 68%) Race for the White House at 6pmET (up 64%), Hardball with Chris Matthews at 5pmET (up 8%) and Verdict with Dan Abrams at 9pmET (up 8%).

I can't fault her in any way. I love her delivery - direct and with a clear-eyed gaze. Keith is terrific. He's funny, passionate, and experienced in the studio ... and clearly a conscientious liberal - i.e. he's biased towards FACTS.

I thought everything else shut down while Keith (or Rachel) was on. I guess I could switch channels during a commercial and check it out. But what if I didn't switch back in time?
