Proof that John McCain lied to that little kid about not raising taxes
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 01:08 PM by JohnnyRingo
When asked at a town hall campaign stop by a young girl whether he would raise taxes, McCain looked her in the eye, then stated simply and flatly..."no".

Apparently John McCain was hoping that kid's parents didn't have employer supplied health care and that the kid doesn't have the Googles to search McCain's own website.

John McCain clearly states his plan to institute a new tax by including employer sponsored health care benefits as income. While the campaign can spin this as "voting for McCain is like getting a raise", it's a new tax on working people:

http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/News/NewsReleases/Read.aspx?guid=f8319887-1528-40aa-971a-402f7d1adb9e

excerpt:
McCain would eliminate the tax exemption for people whose employers pay a portion of their coverage, raising an estimated $3.6 trillion in revenues, Holtz-Eakin said. Companies that provide coverage to workers still would get tax breaks. McCain would also cut costs by limiting health care lawsuits.

That's from McCain's own website, not MoveOn or Air America.

Taxing the working class while giving a wink to corporations that govt subsidies will continue to come their way is trademark Republican policy, but lying to a little girl about it is a new level.

Today on MSNBC a McCain campaign staffer, clearly talking about his plan for corporate welfare, said: "cutting taxes creates jobs", as if a tax cut for GM will allow them to fire up another shift at the Escalade plant to make unwanted SUVs. He's trying to convince us that with a tax cut, Kraftmaid will recall the 400 workers furloughed last month to up production of kitchen cabinets for houses that aren't being built.

Supply side economics, or what Republicans like to call "trickle down" is a theory that if we feed the mouth of the corporate beast to the point of gluttony, the rest of us can prosper from what trickles out of the other end.
