Why are people bitching about the cost of gasoline?
Just the other day I got onto Interstate 80 and set my cruise control at 55mph (speed limit was 75mph) and guess who was the slowest vehicle on the freeway?

Me...

Even the huge semi's were doing 60-65+mph..

Alot of people passed me and gave strange looks like I was some sort of nut...

But everyday they continue to bitch, bitch, bitch...

SCREW THEM!!!

3. I'm with ya my friend
I get on I-10 and I-59, hang out in the right lane and set the cruise on 60 and everybody is zooming by me. Maybe my choice is driven by age. I am 54. But this morning at a stop light (two lanes each way) with another stop light about a block away this young lad flew down to the next red light when our light turned green and stopped abruptly. No wonder there is free DNA testing in Mississippi.

7. I'm doing more hypermiling where I can.
And the type of driving you describe just amazes me.
Hauling ass up to a stoplight so you can sit there and idle longer.

4. You are an arrogant danger to everyone else on the road.
At the very least you can be charged with obstruction of traffic.

Go with the flow. Speed doesn't kill, speed differance does.

6. It was a three lane freeway with hardly any traffic.
I was all by myself...no obstruction what so ever...

9. Ridiculous
first: obstruction of traffic requires having more than three cars behind you where they have no option to get around and going well below reasonable speeds.

second: they can go around slower cars.

14. Isn't it true that there are also minimum speeds for interstate
highways? If one is traveling between the minimum and maximum, how is that obstructing traffic?

24. Post 14. There is a minimum also. If one is above that minimum
then one is legal. I believe if you then ram that person (who is driving at or above the posted minimum) in the rear, then you have failed to maintain control of your vehicle.

17. I Wouldn't Exactly Call That "Speed"

I find 55 mph frustrating and annoying, not relaxing.

The interstates and most cars are designed to go much faster.

Now people who are having a really hard time making ends meet with the hyperinflation have to reduce their speed to squeeze out a few more miles per gallon.

I understand that.

And Congress should act to bring all consumers, especially those making low wages, some meaningful relief from the oil company tycoons and market speculators.

Will they act?

22. Then you don't relax when you drive. I don't do it to get a couple more miles out of a gallon

I drove that on the interstates when it was $1.25 a gallon.

11. The slower drivers are sometimes worse
on the highway.

That theory, of slowing down in order to save on gas, works depending on what kind of car you have and how many miles you drive.

I drive too much to have that really decrease my gas bills.

13. personal experience ...
65+mph speed - 28 mpg max

<=55mph - 33 mpg average (just went 36)

IN AN 2007 AMERICAN BUILT SMALL CAR!

Of course, I'm being passed by SUVs, Porsches, other small cars, big trucks, etc.

I noted years ago (when I got an Escort station wagon, instead of a pickup truck), that there were plenty of people more than happy to spend big bucks on cars - opposed to the mantra that "American car buyers" wouldn't get small cars and American car companies couldn't make money on smaller, more fuel efficient cars ...

16. If you were in the right lane (the left one being the fast lane, of course) then nobody should have
honked.

'Speed limit' is the maximum speed; there is usually a lower legal limit (often 40MPH)

You did no wrong.

18. I hate it when old people won't drive the speed limit also.
@55 you're the slowest car in the parking lot, much less an Interstate where people pick the road because it's quicker.

19. That is a nutty thing to do
It is really dangerous when people don't travel at a speed at least within 10 MPH of the speed limit.

20. The posted speed limit for trucks with trailers is 55mph
which is 20mph slower than the top speed limit in California.

On a very busy 3-day holiday freeway you never want to be that slow...

That is why I am complaining. Oh yes, because Exxon has had record profits recently. That too.
