Judging from the way oil prices have gone during the Bush presidency, it's conceivable their agenda was to jack UP oil prices, especially in light of Oil & Gas Journal, the primary publication of the oil industry, worried that without the war, which would begin in four months, the price of oil per barrel would drop.

Greg Palast ran a story before that about a former top CIA oil analyst, who he names, telling him the Iraq War was in part to keep Iraq from producing too much oil and driving the price down.

Later, the Downing Street Minutes of Bush & Blair's planning for the war seemed to confirm this when Bush sent assurances to Russia's Vladimir Putin that a successful invasion would NOT result in lower oil prices.

I wonder what further confirmation might come up in addition to that map dividing up Iraq's oil fields that was released:

1. Interesting concept...
It's possible that the Bush administration knew that the war with Iraq would cause oil prices to skyrocket. The threat of war with Iran will also lead to further oil price increases and consequently the U.S. will be forced to permit drilling in previously off limit areas. Big Oil will have even Bigger Profits!
