From "straight-talker" to sidewinder..

For any true independents out there, McCain's deal with the devil (Rove) may end up costing him more than he expected.

Right now, the flurry of slimy attacks are being talked about, but I think that in the end, it will come back to bite him in his bony old wrinkled ass..

Obama is reluctant to attack McCain's military service, but even though he has asked 527s to NOT run ads, we all know they will, and when they do, I have a feeling that McCain's bubble will finally be pierced..

We have yet to hear much about the Keating 5 scandal and its eerie similarity to the financial scandals that republicans are known for, and we are living through now...or the adulterous "family values", or the apparent senility/carelessness he exhibits almost daily.

These ads will come...and who knows?..maybe even the Cindy-steals-meds-from-poor-kids episode will get another airing.. Only the wife of a "straight-talking war hero-senator" would get a pass on that one.. If she had been named Shaniqua Johnson, she would STILL be in jail..

McCain has been allowed to define McCain.. The whole "maverick/straight talk" meme was fostered and furthered by McCain (with help from the adoring media). But let's look at that .. It's easy to "be the maverick" in a self-serving way , and vote against your own party, when a bills passage is guaranteed by your own majority.. Joe Lieberman does it all the time..for "bipartisan's sake".. HALF of Mccain's senate time was with a majority in the senate, and he was chairman of his own committee, so of course, he have a high profile, and could get away with all kinds of self-promotion.. That same 12 year period coincided with the birth of cable tv 24-hr networks, who just happened to be hungry for pols who would always be available.... That's how McCain won them over.,. he could afford to say off the cuff stuff, and loved schmoozing with them all.. It paid off when he ran for office in 2K, and is still paying off today. Mccain always gets the benefit of the doubt.

Here's hoping, that when those ads run, Obama says something like:

Those are not our campaign's ads, but in view of the slime that;s come directly from the Mccain campaign, I can understand why organizations may want to run their own ads..I do not "support" them, but our current system allows them to speak out, so it is what it is "..and then never addresses them again..
