Lieberman On Attending RNC Convention: ‘I Will Do It’ And Speak Against ‘Partisan Mud-Slinging
On Meet the Press, host Tom Brokaw informed guest Joe Lieberman (I-CT) that nearly 50,000 activists have signed onto the “Lieberman Must Go” petition being circulated by Brave New Films. “Do you think you’re going to be comfortable next year in the Democratic caucus?” Brokaw asked. Lieberman said he’s crossed party lines to support John McCain because “this is no ordinary time.”

Brokaw followed-up by asking if that means he will speak at the Republican convention. Lieberman practically confirmed that he would indeed speak. After stating that no decision has been made, Lieberman went on to say:

If Sen. McCain feels that I can help his candidacy…I will do it. But I assure you this Tom, I’m not going to go to that convention — the Republican convention — and spend my time attacking Barack Obama. I’m going to go there really talking about why I support John McCain and why I hope a lot of other independents and Democrats will do that.

And frankly, I’m going to go to a partisan convention and tell them — if I go — why it’s so important that we start to act like Americans and not as partisan mud-slingers.

Brokaw said “it sounds like you’re going to go.” Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) added, “It looks like that to me too.” Watch it:

Later in the roundtable segment, Andrea Mitchell said the “good money” is that Lieberman would deliver the keynote address at the RNC Convention.

1. At this point, there may not even BE a keynote speaker for the Pukes in
Minneapolis.

Republicans are bailing out of that gig so fast it would make your head spin.

And who could blame them?

"Convention? Sorry -- schedule conflict."

"Convention? Can't -- it's my bowling night. Yeah, all 4 nights."

"Convention? Gee, I wish I could -- nothing like landing at Larry Craig International to go to a jamboree of losers and crooks."

From that angle, I'd say Joe Lieberman can pretty much write his own ticket.

4. Ha!
Lieberman, you sanctimonious, hypocritical prick. On the other hand, I'm glad he is going. He's like a giant millstone around a prospective Presidential candidates neck. His endorsment will only speed up McCain's sinking to the bottom of the Republican slime pit.

5. The RNC can't get many republicans to show up for their convention.
But not to worry. Joe Lieberman will be there.

Maybe a few other DINOs should join him on the dais.

Lieberman will speak out against the primary rePUKE campaign strategy?
...I think we will never hear those words come from Lieberman at the RNC.

I certainly will not watch it live, but if someone can video Lieberman's speech and post here, I will sit down and watch it.

9. What other choice does he have?
He knows his days are numbered as a Senator. His only hope to stay on in politics is to attach
himself firmly to the Republic party and wait for an appointment to some office.

Too many bridges, too much fire.

10. Kinda Like Speaking At Your Own Funeral
Joementum is rapidly turning into a true party of one. He's all but become personna non grata within the Democratic caucus and they only tolerate him cause he's a swing vote in the rare instance there's a majority vote (which there haven't been many)...and generally makes sure to side with the GOOP in their filibusters. Many are sick of his playing both sides...and that game is soon to end.

His only future is if Gramps wins...and gives him a parachute to get out of the Senate (methinks Joe wants to be Secretary of State)...cause if Gramps loses and the GOOP takes the anticipated hits in the Senate in November, Lieberman is toast. With 52 Democrats, there will be a majority to push through new rules next year that will make "Independent" Joe irrelevant. Plus, I can see Senator Reid stripping him of his chairmanships. It doesn't serve Joe much use to join the GOOPers...and they really don't want him. He'll be back benched...and deservedly so.

13. 52 Goes A Long Way
That's how the "organizing rules" are set...the reason we have all this 60 votes was due to the "agreement" due to there being only 50 Democrats...one less than needed to set up their own rules...Joe sat as the swing vote and thus Reid caved at the time to the 60 vote rule to get Joe's vote to become Majority Leader. With our own 52, Joe can go pound sand...as well as the 60 votes.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be very happy if we get 60...that would all but neutralize any GOOP attempts to fillibuster...and at that point let them talk themselves silly.

Cheers...

12. Let me get this straight...
...after months of McCain and Lieberman slinging mud at Obama...after the legacy of Karl Rove... at their RNC convention, they plan to talk about how slinging mud and going negative is un-American and wrong to do?????????

You have GOT to be kidding me!

17. 'Meet the Press' transcript for August 3, 2008
Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), Sen. Joe Lieberman (I/D-CT)
Roundtable: Andrea Mitchell, Mike Murphy, Chuck Todd, Judy Woodruff

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25992968/
(snip)
SEN. KERRY: ...and it doesn't mention offshore drilling. What it talks about--it tries to insinuate that his celebrity is somehow all he has. Now, I'm going to get to the other, but this is, you know, this is a complete contradiction in John McCain. John McCain has said he wants a campaign of ideas, not insults. John McCain has said the American people want a campaign that's respectful.

Even you, Joe, 10 years ago, you went to the floor of the United States Senate, and you said that our public life is coarsening. You said that the society's values are shrinking. That's an ad that plays to the worst instincts in America, which is to diminish someone's character.

MR. BROKAW: But what the senator--but...

SEN. KERRY: And then Karl Rove turns around, and Karl Rove brings up another statement, saying, "Obama's like the guy at the country club with the beautiful date and a martini and a cigarette in his hand." What are they trying to do? They're trying to say to America, "Somehow, he's not like you. He's not like us." Now, last point, Joe brought up...

SEN. LIEBERMAN: Joe doesn't work for the McCain campaign, that's the first thing that's...

SEN. KERRY: Well, they just hired Karl Rove's top protege to help produce these kinds of ads. And, believe me, they talk to Karl Rove. All right?

18. What if more people show up at the Ron Paul Shadow Convention
than the Republican Convention? His convention tickets are almost half sold out.
That could be a real joke on the Republicans
