7. There's a puppy right around the corner from me
that is part of an accident waiting to happen. I've never seen this pit on a walk in the neighborhood and he seems to be locked up in the entry way all the time. When we walk by, it's not unusual to hear raised voices that sound sort of out of control. It's getting to the point that I turn around if I see the gate open.

And this little pit, must be two or so, it going to get the consequences for his idiot owners' neglect. It's maddening.

8. It is almost always the owners. I was bitten by a pit, a few years back.
His owner was a car thief.

9. Cesar Milan, that Dog Whisperer guy, uses his pit to train other dogs.
It's the best thing you've ever seen.

This is mean and makes me feel like Gladys Cravitz from "Bewitched" but, I'm looking for a reason to do welfare checks on these people. They're young but not THAT young to know better than to lock their dog up in a 9ft sq area day and night and just leave him there until they forget to close the mfing gate and he gets put down because they are stupid as hell.

I don't care of they're dealing or if they're smoking crack and eating pizza all day while they burn books. If that baby gets put down, I'll care a LOT.

5. Just waiting for someone to claim self-defense because "It was a PIT BULL, dammit!"
Listen, I know several people who own pit bulls, and they're some of the nicest, friendliest dogs I've ever met. I understand that the breed is genetically "programmed" to some degree for fighting (the huge head and bulging muscles are evidence of this), but heredity is NOT destiny. A well-treated, well-trained pit is no more dangerous than any other type of dog.

10. My only experience with them has been bad
Somebody tossed one out of a car along the side of the road in front of our house. By the time I got down to the roadside the car had sped off. I didn't want to leave the dog there to starve so I took him up to the house and put him in the pasture while I tried to find a home for him. We wound up keeping him for a few days. He got along OK with our other dogs and he didn't seem all that aggressive toward humans but he killed two of our outdoor kitties so I took him to the pound.

11. The key is in your first sentence, tularetom.
A dog that has been raised by people like that doesn't stand much of a chance.

I have had Boxers, Rotts, and Pits.

The only trouble I ever had was when a female Boxer attacked a guy who turned out to be molesting his entire house-full of foster children.

She tore that bastard up, too. She had tried for months to get at the guy.
