Olympics: Forecast Now For Rain, Typhoons (Oh My!)
Chinese leaders have been hoping that rain would arrive to scrub some of the thick layer of air pollution (they call it "fog") off of Beijing before the bulk of Olympic visitors arrive this week.
It is also lucky to have sprinkles of water on the walk leading to your house before visitors arrive in Chinese folklore. So many in China have been hoping for rain.....
Their wish may come true. Somewhat.
Forecasters on Sunday made their prediction for next friday's Openening Ceremony weather: in Beijing, heavy rain and thunder. In cities hosting other venues? Typhoon.

As for typhoons, she said that two or three were expected to blow in from the Pacific Ocean during the August 8-24 Games and that they would be tracked and monitored throughout the period.
The storms could hit Hong Kong, affecting the staging of the Olympic equestrian events there, and could also disrupt parts of the Olympic football tournament that is being staged in coastal Shanghai.

However, she said any disruption that the typhoons could bring to the Olympic events would be contained.

but when Mother Nature drops a bigass storm on them, containing disruption may be a little hard. Nature trumps government.
