I wanted to float this ad idea here, too.
McCain as Bush rubber stamp. It's a common and often-observed theme, but here's how I think it could be executed.

So anyway, here's the idea. The commercial opens looking down on a thick stack of paper with a top sheet that says "Bush position on energy: drill offshore." A right hand/forearm holding a stamp comes into view and stamps the paper with something like this:

Thump.

Then a left hand comes in and takes the top sheet off. You see another position of Bush's that McCain's gone with. Thump.

Then the motion accelerates. Thump. Thump. Thump thump thumpthumpthumpthump, until it's a blur - but you see a few major headlines first where McCain has supported repugnant Bush positions, like "Run up huge deficits" and "Deny after school programs", etc. After three or four seconds of motion so fast it's a blur, it stops, the hand puts the stamp down out of sight, the left hand holds the right wrist while the right hand is wrung. While the wringing's going on, you hear Bush saying "No doubt about it, it's tough. It's hard work." Then you see a shot of something like this, wobbling on the desk:

and a voiceover says, "It's not so hard when you have one of these."

I know it's negative, but the McCain campaign is succeeding right now at turning this election into a referendum on Obama - casting doubts, etc., etc. I think ads like this are needed to remind the country that McCain represents four more years of Bush, and that's the key to a Democratic victory - reminding the nation of John McCain's 8-year role as cheerleader and water carrier for George W. Bush.

Thoughts?

1. It's good
Obama will have to go negative. It's what our country likes and expects.

2. It is very good - and it is accurate. Repetition of a basic message
is what makes an impact - *Bush43 said it in one of his few honest breakthrough admissions of how he has manipulated the American people's minds ( I now forget the verbiage involved)

I think this ad, if used solely, everywhere, every day, would be just fine.

Seriously, I think if we could afford to test it (if the stakes were not so high), it would be a great thing just for fun. Especially if we said: This is what they have done and they did not bother being truthful, now we'll try it on them, except we'll be unassailable.

4. I think you had better get it to market before someone else does.
I think it is very powerful.

5. that is pretty clever. but i don't see it as negative. and that is why it is clever...
it only paints mccain as a continuation, a rubber stamp.

that is not negative.

how has mccain differentiated himself from bush?

it does not attack mccain as a war hero. it does not bring race into the argument. experience. none of the talking points.

it says nothing negative about either candidate. just the truth about one.

so you vote for that, or you vote for something new.

bravo. perfect. i love it. and who could argue with it?
