Don, you probably remember back in 2004 there was a Democratic Party consultant who popped on during the election...right in the midst of the Swift Boat fiasco and he said that the Corporate Media was our biggest enemy. The GOOP attack machine is very entrenched and until we beat the media spin, we can't win. Back in '04, it was at high pitch as booosh was still considered "popular" and the election was played all on Kerry's court. The corporate media never looked into the boooshie messes (Abramoff was already going), and IMHO, if it wasn't the Slime boaters, it would have been some other "outrage" (windsurfing)...a cumulitive effect over many months that wore down the Kerry campaign. They were constantly reacting...you do that, you're gonna lose.
Yes, they're trying to do the same to Senator Obama, but I think we're on a different playing field this year...and we have a corporate media that is not the undisputed power they were 4 years ago. Their enabling flies in the face of too much reality out there. They can't paper over all the crimes and ineptitude of the repugnican party. All they can try to do to help Gramps is to knock Obama down...and IMHO, they're giving it their best shot but it's not working.
My hopes are this is pissing people off...getting people off their duffs and involved in the campaign. It's ground games that win elections...and this year the Democrats have built a far better organization than the repugnicans. This flies below the corporate media radar...and is where our real strength lies.
Cheers...
