I just heard that my University may cancel tuition waivers for Graduate Students working part-time
with their departments, effective next semester. This is a public university (UCF )

This is unheard of in Grad school , you work 20 hours/week you get a tuition waiver has always been the norm.

The shit with the economy must be really hitting the fan.

I am lucky I am done with Grad school, I pity those in the middle of their research right now.

4. Its a much bigger school right now ,lol, with a thriving Grad program
give us 10 years , and we may knock UF off of its pedestal .

5. Just awful - that's how I got through U of Kansas;
That would make graudate school a non-starter for a lot of people - very bad news.

6. My niece has one more year at U of Iowa's graduate writer's program.
They yanked the teaching assistantship she had last year, so my sister and BIL are going to have to spring for her tuition.

At least then she'll be DONE and can get a job - if there ARE any jobs for her. She is leaning toward a university teaching career, but the way things are going even that may not fly.

I can relate. Things were deplorable job-wise when I got out of vet school in 1982........
