One thing that has struck me is how often Dubya hints at the truth in ways that make it sound like he's joking or stupid. Things like the job being a hell of a lot easier if this were a dictatorship—as long as Bush was the dictator. And we see the US turning into a fascist dictatorship in front of our eyes, so that wasn't a joke it was a hint of what was to come.
There are two main reasons people drop hints like that about secrets. The first is that they are children (or mentally child-like). The child finds it hard to keep a secret and drops hints, thinking that no adult could possibly guess from the hints what the secret is, making the child seem prescient. And perhaps Dubya is suffering from dementia that makes his personality child-like.
The second is that the person has a psychopathic personality and enjoys making people suffer. Then the hints are dropped so that anticipation of the harm that is about to be done to them is magnified by the anticipation. In these cases the psychopath plans carefully so that although the hints provide a warning of what is to come the person about to suffer does not have any improved chance of avoiding it because of the forewarning.
Bush has also said that he likes people to think he's stupid because they "misunderestimate" him. It's all too easy to imagine Cheney drilling that into Dubya to boost his morale and the child-like Dubya can't resist dropping a hint. But...
What if he really is a fully-functioning psychopath
pretending to be a fucktard? Why would he do that? Because he'd noticed that when Poopy was VP to Reagan he could get away with all sorts of evil shit and then claim he was "out of the loop" to avoid indictment. But when Poopy became the 41st President he found it much harder to claim to being out of the loop by blaming it on his cabinet and aides.
So perhaps Dubya is faking being a moron so that if he ever gets indicted his lawyers can claim that he was out of the loop by virtue of
diminished responsibility. His lawyers can then blame Cheney for it all and Cheney can plea for clemency on grounds of age and health, but if that plea fails he probably won't live too long anyway so wouldn't be too distressed if he got a life sentence.
Reason for rejecting that supposition: Dubya would have to be a fucking good actor.
Reasons for accepting that supposition: Dubya has shown an evil streak throughout his life, is the offspring of an evil parent (who also lied us into a war in Iraq) and an evil grandfather (who helped Hitler's war machine after the US entered WW II and continued to do so even after the US confiscated most of his German assets under the "Trading with the Enemy Act.") Dubya's underlying personality is evil enough that, if he still has a modicum of brain function, would see the need to adopt such a cover and to play it through.
I've had this running through my mind for the past four or five years and I still can't make my mind up whether Dubya is retarded or an evil schemer playing a rôle.
