FLORENCE, AZ -- At least nine people were killed on an Arizona highway south of Phoenix on Thursday, according to Department of Public Safety officer Carmen Figueroa.
Ten others were apparently injured in the wreck along State Route 79, south of Florence.
Officials said as many as 19 people were in a GMC Suburban when it went off the road about 8:30 a.m.
The SUV reportedly drove through a wash, rolled over several times and landed on the roof, crushing it.
DPS officials said they believe all the patients were U.S. border crossers and suspected undocumented immigrants.

Survivors were flown to hospitals in Phoenix and Tucson. Figueroa said all the victims were adults.
Two of the nine victims were women and the other seven were men, according to DPS spokesman Bart Graves.
At least three were said to be in critical condition.
Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center Spokesman Craig Fischer said his Phoenix hospital received four survivors and will possibly receive additional patients later.
Judy Keane, a spokeswoman for Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, also confirmed two survivors were treated there but could not give any information about their condition.
The highway has now reopened after being closed for several hours.
At this time, the cause of the collision is unknown, but witnesses told officers that the Suburban was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and the vehicle ran off the road.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to Graves.
Investigators from IIMPACT (Illegal Immigration Prevention & Apprehension Co-op Team) were at the scene on Thursday afternoon, conducting their own investigation into the occupants of the vehicle.
