REHAB: a question
has anyone paid for or known someone who has had to pay for rehab? (if someone pays out of pocket about how much would it be?)

someone i know needs it, wants it, doesn't have insurance

i'm on the phone to a couple local hospitals & rehab centers (but the people who know the prices won't be in until morning)

one place tells me they do detox for 5 days and inpatient for 28 days
another place 2-3 days and then outpatient from then on

i don't know what type of program to recommend (and again the cost)

one place used to have a sliding scale but i was just told with all the cuts blagojevich has made that everything is changing, that a facility has recently closed, etc.

opinions on rehab appreciated

Maybe the Addiction/Recovery forum can answer some of your questions.

Wishing you and your friend the best. :hi:

3. have you tried your local mhmr?
Your local mental health mental retardation center may have some options. That's what we recommend first here in TX.

4. My brother went to Hazelton about 25 yrs ago and it was $3,000
it's a lot more now.

Sometimes health insurance will pay for it or perhaps a grant.

5. I sent a friend to one 10 yrs ago? cost 2500 for 3 wks
While you can get most the stuff out in a couple days, it takes a good 5 days to get over it (detox) even though you still will have residue in your body for a couple wks. Inpatient is good as it is more intensive and 24 hr supervised, outpatient is good in that you can stay at home. Outpatient is bad in that you stay in your home environment rather than getting away and developing strategies for changing it. Inpatient in bad in that it take more time at once.

I think inpatient is better overall since there are usually many factors that need working on. My friend came home from first rehab very changed, lasted several months before began slipping back. Came home from second time admitting had played games there rather than truly zorking on it, with minimal change.

Good luck to you or whomever. It is a tough thing, takes a hell of a lot of effort and is difficult for everyone involved.

6. Alcoholics Anonymous
is free, and still has the best track record for recovery.

In fact most (if not all) rehab clinics refers all clients to AA and it is included in their programs.

I'm not suggesting that rehab clinics don't provide additional support (especially during detox), but if a clinic is out of reach, AA is always there.

Good luck!
