the exact opposite thing about people who cheat. The EXACT opposite.

If you want to know why I remember that, you can PM me.

8. FinnFan, I despise cheating.
What I am upset about is that this man's private life is being splashed all over the internet. When my friends, neighbors cheat, it's not the subject of thousands of posts on the internet. Or a media circus.

I will go to my grave despising cheating and I certainly think it is wrong, but I've never said that I should be able to judge someone based on their cheating. I don't know what goes on in someone's bedroom. Actually, I don't want to know.

As far as my private life goes, I would never cheat on my husband. If I felt compelled to do so, I would leave him. I know he feels the same way.

I don't do a lot of gravedancing type posts even about Republicans who have cheated, because I do feel it's private.

:hi:

Never once ever have I ever said that cheating is okay. I love John Edwards for lots of reasons, but I believe this is between he and his wife. It doesn't negate once he's done. Cheaters suck. Cheating sucks.

Your thinly veiled calling me a liar is noted, however. Thanks, bunches.

On top of that, Presidential Elections are like Rock Star events now (at least on our side.. McCain still puts them to sleep). It can't be easy at all.. Really, we should give them their time to heal and be their for Elizabeth as she battles cancer... Its a battle she won't win eventually.

6. Nope. I could care less about him having an affair, so long as he came clean to Elizabeth.
However, his bullshit pontificating about how he just couldn't bring himself to support gay marriage because he believes that marriage is soooooo sacred, while simultaneously violating his OWN damned marriage all to hell and back?

I can tolerate flawed humans, but I give no quarter to hypocrites who oppose my equality based on "morals" and then go on to display absolutely NO fucking morals at all.

It hurt me so badly when he said he opposed gay marriage, because I thought he was a Good Guy--therefore I wondered if maybe, just maybe, there was something wrong with *me*.

Now I know the truth, and it burns me up. He can go to hell.

10. Have you ever been conflicted?
Sure you have. I have too. We all have. You make the best of it.

Have you ever made terrible choices? Especially during a stressful period of your life? Sure you have. I have too, horrible ones, especially in retrospect. We all have.

So today we discovered that John Edwards is not from Mt. Olympus. This is not a surprise.

22. Or drink, or take drugs or get lost in a million other distracting pain relievers
You are 100% correct. People are assuming this had something to do with Elizabeth. I'm fairly sure she would share that point of view but it is likely wrong. He's an alpha male and a good looking one at that, therefore this was the easiest drug to use to numb the pain. He's going to lose his life partner and his best friend. Almost anyone would numb that one for a while. Unfortunately, in our society, he will be pilloried for this choice while he would have been pitied for the others (alcohol, oxycontin, pot etc.).

25. How many times have you known a man who has lost his
wife and started dating relatively soon thereafter? Married men like being married. It's extremely rare that a married man leaves his marriage because he's unhappy unless there's someone else.

Women, OTOH, DO leave marriages because they're unhappy. Even in there isn't another waiting for her.

24. The difference is that MY terrible choices don't have nationally-significant consequences.
I don't help deprive other people of their rights. If I had the power of a Senator, I'd probably make bad choices too, but NONE of them would involve me helping to deprive other citizens of their constitutional right to equality under the law.

With the privilege of power comes the weight of responsibility. Edwards had a responsibility that he failed, in a self-serving and painful that that hurt a LOT of people--not just his own family. To me, he's no different than a GOP jerk who opposes gay marriage while violating his own hetero marriage. Worse if anything, because the GOP jerks don't pretend to be on OUR side.

Edwards is not a victim, save for being a victim of his own selfish choices. But other people are, thanks to him and people like him. His poor wife more than anyone. Stop trying to defend him. The sheer magnitude of his selfishness and unconcern for others is BEYOND defense.

My comment at the bottom refers to a select group of people, supporters of another candidate, who are now trashing John while pretending to be concerned about Elizabeth and her kids. They behaved poorly toward other candidates and their supporters, including John and Elizabeth Edwards, during the primaries... they are entertaining, to say the least. :D

Somehow in his mind, it was proper for him to have 2 woman but not for me to have my man - and I've been happy to blast the Republican hypocrites, I'm not about to play it different for a man just because he's got a big D behind his name.

If he had the affair in 2006 and it was over, he should have come out and admit it before he announced his candidacy.

:yoiks:

(I shouldn't jibe, but especially given his comments re: Clinton/Lewinski way back when, without bothering to apologize to Clinton or attempt to justify his nefarious activity...)

49. Now this is something we agree upon!
Edwards doesn't owe anyone but Elizabeth and his family an explanation or an apology.

62. Amen
That's what I tried to tell people today. This is a private matter, and I don't care WHO doesn't like it. It has nothing to do with his ability to lead or not to lead, his ability to make decisions for the good, and I think that anyone who pays attention to such shit needs to get a life. John and Elizabeth need to have their own space, and tough to anyone who doesn't agree with that assessment. In fact, he can't even be considered a "public figure" anymore, just a private citizen. And private citizens get to keep their lives away from public scrutiny.

66. Yep. Recommending.
Except it was about SEX, and there is nothing more important to Americans than SEXCAPADES except for DEATH, and DEATHCAPADES. Not that America is utterly addicted to drama for drama's sake.
