Fox News Calls off Rocky vs. Hannity
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:56 AM by helderheid
(KCPW News) Fox News has cancelled its bout tonight between pundit Sean Hannity and Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson. Mayor's spokesman Patrick Thronson says the cable news station called this morning to cancel at the last minute because quote "they were unable to fill out the segment."

Anderson had been scheduled to talk about his push for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and was eager to quote "take on anybody anytime" to get his message across. Thronson says Fox personnel expressed interest in having Anderson on at a later date. It would have been the mayor's first appearance on Hannity and Colmes.

Quote of the Day

Sean Hannity: "You tell the mayor of Salt Lake City this from Sean Hannity. ... I will fly out to Salt Lake City at my own expense for charity, and I will debate the merits of the war, impeachment and the liberal-conservative debate of our time."

Rocky Anderson: “This will be even better because I assume (it will be) a debate rather than a scream-fest on the Hannity show. ... I think it's fantastic that he will come out here. He's committed himself. We'll find a venue; we'll find a date that works." 1. Hannity or Bill O will not "debate" anyone if they can't have home field
Taped section .... control of the sound .... ability to talk over the top of
somebody .... a screened audience.

Sean did your mommy tell you that you are not allowed to go to Salt Lake?

another privileged weenie republicon chickenhawk. Typical republicon bluster. No integrity to back up the bluster -- there's nothing there.

3. Hannity's got nothing. Not once an original thought, never a bit of reflection -
just RW talking points, parroted in his moronic "I'm just an ordinary guy" tone. He's the least substantive of any of the RW shills.

9. Geez, How Low Is That?
Can we measure insignificance to that degree? If he's the least substantive, we have to be talking significance at the subquantum level.

4. "Unable to fill out the segment"???
I'd bet a paycheck Insannity chickened out.

BTW, what exactly does "out to Salt Lake City at my own expense for charity" mean? He's going to put it down on his taxes as a charity event? Hmmmm...sounds like cheating on his taxes to me!

28. That's a bogus excuse - he definitely chickened out
A minimum of 25% of Hannity's show is just him repeating what he said in the previous segment, building up what's he's going to say in the next segment, and name-dropping about all the 'Great Americans' he hangs out with. Hannity fills entire shows even when he has nothing to say - it's ludicrous to think that they couldn't fill just a segment with a compelling guest like this...

My guess is that Hannity actually heard a clip of Rocky speaking, and realized he was going to get his ass handed to him..

12. That is not fair BOSS.
While our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are farting around in the Middle East, Hannity is valiantly protecting the corner table at Ruth\'s Chris steakhouse from marauding hordes of wingnut autograph seekers. What a Hell of a man!

resembles \"debate\" about as much as he resembles a \"journalist\". He may shit himself when he learns he can\'t just cut the other speaker\'s mic, or simply talk over them.

30. Oh - I don't think it was Franken he said that to. I think it was
to some 9/11 families after they questioned what the Iraqi War had to do with their loved ones' deaths.

Not that saying it to Franken isn't bad, but it's worse to say it to an average citizen who's suffered through such a tragedy.

14. "They bagged me tonight," he told Nightside, and he cited "some vague excuse that they couldn't fill
And while the debate has the potential to be a verbal battle between two outspoken, love-him-or-hate-him voices on opposite ends of the political spectrum, Anderson said he sees the debate as a chance to come to agreement on "our common values."
Anderson criticized Hannity and the Fox producers for the cancellation, calling it "unprofessional."
"They bagged me tonight," he told Nightside, and he cited "some vague excuse that they couldn't fill the segment."
Finley did not specify what topic pre-empted Anderson's appearance. Thursday's "Hannity & Colmes" episode included an interview with former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the threat posed by Iran and a segment debating whether Rosie O'Donnell's liberal views are driving away viewers of ABC's daytime talk show "The View," among other topics.
The "Hannity & Colmes" interview was to have been conducted by satellite, with Hannity and co-host Alan Colmes in New York and Anderson in a studio in Salt Lake City, so Anderson did not have to cancel any travel plans.
The appearance would have been Anderson's first interview with Hannity, who has made several visits to conservative Utah.

27. I remember once he had a professor from Princeton, or Harvard,
an Ivy league professor, on his show, and they were talking about something, and Hannity, the one term college dropout, told the professor, "You are wrong about this, I know blah, blah, blah." I think the professor was too stunned to reply, that this mental pipsqueak would talk to him like he was stupid.

It is kind of like when Bill O'Reilly tells Wes Clark that he is wrong about a military matter; Clark just says, "No I am not, and this is why," but Bill cuts him off and says, "I disagree." OK, Bill, you, Mr. Falafel Man, know more about the military than a 4 star general.

Hilarious!!!

I thought maybe Hannity was going to fight Sylvester Stallone, from the subject line. What I would pay to see somebody lump up that smug mug.

Say, what '30s actor does Hannity look like with that stupid haircut? It's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't get it. Lon Chaney Jr., maybe? If Lon Chaney Jr., Tyrone Power and Jackie Cooper had a mad scientist threesome and produced a kid?

No one wants a real debate anymore. No even the politicians are any good at it. Anyone remember Galloway kicking ass the other year. Americans need their own equivalent of Question Period. That's what I want to see. Not just the talking heads defending themselves, but at least one hour a week in Congress where all the secretaries and bush and cheney have to defend their stupid ideas.
