3. Other.
Ya see, the thing with Edwards is he had a track record in Congress that didn't jibe with his populism. The adultery is meaningless.

5. TahitiNut, you miss the point.
It isn't that he cheated on his spouse. It is that, when asked whether he had cheated on his spouse, he lied. As a consequence, all of us who worked for him, and some of us spent many hours and our own money campaigning for him, repeated his lie and defended him against the allegations. That is what was inexcusable. Not only did he lie, but he was not honest with those of us who supported him and worked for him.

10. Timing was everything...
Let's just say that the baby really is his. This child was born in February of this year. Working backward, that means conception took place in late May of 2007 - shortly before it was announced that Elizabeth was fighting cancer.

He's a cad - with the lies piling up even higher. Just despicable.

committed adultery.

They were

George McGovern

George Romney

Jimmy Carter

As far as he could surmise all the other former presidents and major presidential contenders of that era had at least a few indiscretions.

Of course, in earlier times, pre-Watergate, the media and even political opponents usually would not even consider bringing up such matters in public.

----

It is a simple reality that to be a celebrity is to have every sensual fantasy in the universe offered to one on a silver platter. The fact that so many people are able to control themselves in this era of relentless media scrutiny and scorched earth politics is more a triumph of ambition over nature than a triumph of moral uprightness over moral turpitude.
