HEADS UP regarding this latest Edwards revelation
Elizabeth Edwards is a DUer, has been for a while, and is a wonderful person.

Not trying to restrict or restrain conversation.

But please remember: she's a DUer, too.

I have never been so disgusted by US media -- a media which imo assisted in the commission of war crimes, btw. But never did I think they could be so...hell..I'd need to consult a thesaurus to even begin to describe my revulsion.

Whatever... in support of her, the one who is the only real victim here, we should all just stfu about the whole thing. She made her decision to stand behind her husband and she should be respected for that. At this point, a slam against him is a slam against her.

was a post about how if we feel for Elizabeth, we have to extend the courtesy to all others in this position no matter what party because otherwise we are hypocrites. I remember Larry Craig's wife and adult kids. I felt for them even as I felt disgust for Larry Craig.

10. Thank you, Mr. Pitt.
I'm glad that you reminded us all that Ms. Edwards is part of the "DU family." She is also one of the most decent of people on the national scene.

In regard to the topic at hand, I have no opinion, nor would I give it much thought unless Ms. Edwards posts a thread on DU asking for our opinion. Until then, it is their business, and I will respect that simple fact, and hope that they are able to deal with it in the best way possible.

DU is a better place when you are around here, Will.

11. Thank you. We needed to be reminded of that. She's a lovely
person.

I also don't want to see a million posts about how she should ditch John now. That's her business, not ours. Nobody knows what a marriage is really like except the 2 people involved. And if Elizabeth can stick it out with John, knowing about the affair, we should support her decision.

If she can't stick it out with him, that's her business, too. And we certainly don't need to make things more difficult for her.

Best wishes to all concerned, even John.

12. Good call, Will
I was just saying on another thread that Elizabeth has cancer fcol, she's had a lot to deal with, and she should do whatever she wants to do with her life. She's known for a long time now, two years is a long time to live with something like that. Already I'm seeing DUers say what she should or should not do... that is pretty pathetic.

Sometimes I wonder about "us"... it sickens me to see the fair weather friends around here. Truly sickening.

Men in power do things they wouldn't ordinarily do... sometimes I think it's not humanly possible for people to deal with that level of power. I for one can admire Bill Clinton without worrying about what he did... and I can do the same with Edwards. It's called being adult.

Jeez...

20. we should all be outraged by major betrayals of public trust
Edwards lied during the campaign ... ok, that's a betrayal of public trust, but I'm not pissed at him. This is a deeply personal family issue -- we had no right to ask and put him in that position where he felt compelled to lie to protect his family and political future. In this situation, all I can do is convey my love and support to the entire Edwards family. And John, I would have voted for you anyway.

But let's talk about real betrayals of public trust, the ones that destroy economies, kill thousands of people and hurts tens of thousands more, and is well into creating a fascist government. That betrayal affects me profoundly, it affects all citizens of the US.

hey, news media? Can we talk about that? Please? Hello?

25. One thing I do hope is that the Democrats don't feel like they need to come out with a statement.
After all, it is an unfair situation because we can't ask the Democrats to publicly judge this situation as it's not their right to do so (although we know that the Republicans probably will jump with glee and be more than happy to condemn the immorality of all of this) and it's also Elizabeth's right to decide how to handle this. I mean, remember what happened with Hillary? I really hope that we do not repeat what happened with the whole Monica Lewinsky affair because that was just an awful misogynistic atmosphere right there.

So I agree, let's be respectful. I do have to say though that I've lost respect for John Edwards. But it's Elizabeth's decision whether to forgive him or not and whether to address it or not.

47. You'd be surprised.
EE came on board during the 2004 primary wars.

Try to imagine a poster who is the very soul of courtesy, comradeship and patience.

Now, imagine that poster in Hell.

Pretty much sums it up. And she was razor-sharp, in tune, and stout of heart. Not an unkind word, and you better believe she got hit with the standard-issue snark fussillade...several times.

An oak, the lady be.

I'm 99.9999999% sure DU is the last place she'll be surfing through roundabout now.

But you never know, and regardless, she's a DUer.

50. If a tree falls on Main Street but the media doesn't report it, did it happen?
Mmmm.

Ask the tree.

Etc.

:grr:

Trying.

Edwards really fucked us over with this sorry shit. The big dogs of today's news media all came to be heavyweights by reporting ad nauseam about Bill, Monica, the dress, the gifts from Nantucket, cigars, infidelity, venality, boners, and so on etc. and blah to the blah plus blah.

You remember.

Reporting on a sex scandal is their only area of competence, and now they have what they need. You think these TV bucketheads even want to try to sound intelligent in a report about the Russia-Georgia combat? Do you think they want to make any sort of effort to understand, and then coherently report about, why that violence matters because of the bombs and bullets being fired en masse next to this massive nat-gas pipeline, which provides most of the home heating fuel to, well, to basically the entire Western world (US, Europe)...and just in time for winter, too.

Nope.

They have a sex scandal to talk about. And that's what they will talk about. That's what they're good at...hell, they excell at covering stories like this.

Welcome to what is going to be "the news" for the next 87 days.

Thanks, John.
