Sorry but where did they get their CD player? Wal-Mart? During a medal ceremony the U.S. national anthem didn't start at the beginning, repeated the opening section twice, then stopped completely before it ended... $40 billion and this is what we get? They should ask for their money back. I would.

1. As long as they give proper respect to the athlete that is all I care about.
They could play the Peanuts theme song at every medal ceremony as long as they give their respects to the athlete no matter which country they are from.

7. They just cut it off before the refrain "home of the brave."
... which seems justified to me.

8. You mean the song...
...about how brave and free we are? Sort of not really applicable any more, don't you think?

10. I guess it was a sublminial message. Translation:
"We own you. We own your debt and we make everything you buy. In a couple of weeks, we're going to own your medals, too."

11. I thought it was hilarious with King George sitting in the audience
I think they did it on purpose...kinda like the Russian film crew conveniently catching George giving the German Chancellor a neck rub. The US is universally disliked around the world. Didn't George just lecture Putin about invading countries. That's rich. Maybe the Chinese thought so too.

13. I'm positive they did it on purpose
Too many people hate Bush for this to be a coincidence. It's just pretty tacky to take it out on an athlete who isn't even involved in the U.S. government.

14. It is tacky to drag the athlete into it
but King George was sitting there trying to soak up the reflected glory from the US gold medal winner.

Be interesting to see if they mess up when George isn't in the audience. My guess is that it will sound a lot better.

12. Crappy arrangements and skimpy instrumentation do not an inspiring song make.
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 01:47 AM by amandabeech
I'm not wild about the song, but they've murdered it. My high school band director would have harangued us for five minutes if we'd played that bad.

Imagine what they would say if we had used a cruddy CD of their anthem in Atlanta or Salt Lake City?
