I love my sister, but she is so ignorant.
I was just talking to her on the phone, and we started in on politics. And I asked her who she thought owned the media, and she said it was ultra-liberal democrats. Where do I start to educate her. I love her so much, and she is so smart. I really want to show her the truth. Help me if you can, I am beat from work. Please.

13. The link shows the "owner corporation" at the center...
...with what they own branching off.

Open Secrets is a good site to show who donates to who.

If you go there, type in "News Corp", and choose "organization", you get this page, showing all the people who've received money from "News Corp".

Looking at the top D and top R recipient, you see: Hillary Clinton and John Sununu and how much they've received and from who.

Lots of stuff there.

It doesn't even make sense to think that a corporate owned media is liberal.

3. From the right,
they like to alk about how so many reporters are registered democrats, but they don't address what the editorial staffand the publishers themselves are--meaning the people who actually do determine what you see--

Who owns the media? Rich people? Are rich people more likely to be liberal, or conservative? Ask her where she thinks Rupert Murdoch and the Rev. Moon stand. If she's smart, she should then be drawing conclusions in a fast hurry.

And how the New York Times let her beat the drum above fold, for war with Iraq.

Then remind her that Judith Miller was part of WHIG.

8. If the media was liberal George Dubya would be in jail.
All you have to do is Google the crimes and killings he is directly responsible for. Mega billion dollar media corporations are by far ultra conservative. They have no soul and build greedy monoliths to themselves both literally and metaphorically. :dem:

There's a difference between family harmony because the members are respected and esteemed, and just plain knuckling under.

29. I think we, as a country, are past the point where that sort of "see no evil" stuff is tolerable.
It's time for us to confront evil (including willful
ignorance) wherever it rears its ugly head. Yes, even
among family and friends.

31. Your family is strangely unclose
OP loves OP's sister and doesn't want her to live in ignorance. Conservatives are unhappy people. You have to hate to be a conservative (those less successful, whether by bad luck or even bad choices, those of different ethnicities, nations and races, etc.) That makes for a miserable life. Some people are closer with their families than just holiday meals.

http://www.cjr.org/resources/

It's who REALLY owns the media. Then have her go to www.opensecrets.org and throw in the names of the companies CEO...then see whose a "ultra-librul"....

From one who worked in the "media", I wished I had a "ultra-librul" boss...almost all were fat-cat GOOPers. One boss proudly wore his Raygun button around the office for months...so much for the "librul media". All ya need to do is try to find a "librul" on the AM Radio...

Needless to say, I haven't seen her for years, and I'm much happier.

Example: She decided she was a Republican because her boyfriend is. I asked her to name three planks of the Republican Party's platform. She couldn't do it.

41. I just cut off all communication with my sister in law.
My brother and his wife are rabid Repubs. Last time I visited, my brother started in on Hillary jokes
within 3 minutes of entering the house. They still think Bushie is the greatest.

I consider them lost causes. It isn't just about politics though, every time I'd visit
I'd reach my limit with SIL in about 4 hours. Overbearing. No conversation...just pontificating.
Try to say something and she cuts you off. Won't listen to suggestions. Has an excuse for everything
and has all the answers.

So, this last time she sent around an e-mail with lies about Obama, I just hit reply all.
That started a shitstorm that I didn't allow her to correct her 'mistake'. I've only suggested to her a gazillion times to check her facts before sending shit. Obviously, part of her enjoys sending crap around or she wouldn't do it.

I just can't respect someone who keeps spreading lies and propaganda--and then wants me to follow etiquette and protocol--and wait for her to correct her mistake. Sheeet. By the time she would get around to sending a mea culpa, that damned e-mail would have been sent on to hundreds of people.

Forget it. I've had enough. My brother understood. No blowback from him.
