"If Obama gets elected we'll become a Socialist country."
Everything seemed to be going so well. Nice day, new client, everybody was happy.
Then an associate of new client walks in. He and new client start with some small talk which eventually leads to politics. I didn't hear all of it but here are some choice high..err...low-lights of their conversation:

First it was the "government is sticking it's nose in everybody's business" rant. :eyes:

And, "Just let me do my job and raise my family the way I want." :silly:

Followed by, "I don't want government run day-care, I don't want my taxes paying for that." :dunce:

Then straight from Rush or Beck or some such brainiac, "So what if it take 10 years for the oil from ANWR to get here, at least we'd have it.":banghead:

But I had to busy myself elsewhere to avoid screaming and losing the job when I heard, "If Obama gets elected we'll become a Socialist country.":grr:

Unfortunately I needed the money, so I had to keep my mouth shut. But it's this kind of myopic, self-centered, ill-informed public that we have to deal with. Even when we get past flag-pin gate, there is this kind of shit to deal with.

Sometimes I just...:nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

I really wanted to let them know that there are people that see him as a moderate. That might have made their heads explode.

For reference, this is a really red area.

22. For the most part, I see Obama maintaining the status quo
just as Hillary would have if she were the nominee. Sure, they might throw the little folk (me/you) a bone or two but for the most part business will go on in Washington as usual. course I could be totally off base, but only time will tell.

People who think like this cretin are precisely why I don't get upset with every little side story that comes out. Here we go over everything with a fine tooth comb every day of the week. Most people don't do anything close to this. If this were '00 or '04 try to nail a * supporter as to why they were going to vote for him. Many die-hard repugs wouldn't know how to answer other than spewing a line of bullsh*t from talk radio. Candidate A says this, Senator B did that.........what it boils down to is many voters vote their conscience or lack of one in the case of this client.

But I really let it rip on my sister in law when she sent around the lies about Obama not visiting

I don't know how many times I've suggested she fact check before sending on this type of crap.
I just exploded.

I have finally cut off communications with her. Obviously, it wasn't just this one e-mail.
This has been building for decades.

She's a lost cause. Now she can send her shit around to all her shitty friends who agree with her
and they can just pat themselves on the back for how righteous and correct they are. Fuck her.

According to her and what ever talk radio sources she has, we'd have lower gas prices now if only Nancy Pelosi had allowed drilling in ANWR.

I'd like to say, don't give up on your sister just yet. My brother was pretty gung-ho for the Repubs for about 30 years. Now he's not so sure. Maybe there's still hope for her. But, the flip side is my old boss who calls Obama "Satan" (I'm not kidding).

36. No. She has more problems than just her politics. She doesn't listen
to anybody. Cuts people off who try to have a dialogue. Defends her position--even when wrong--by saying she's not concerned with facts, she just has this opinion. Well, great, now I don't have to be subjected to her opinion any more than I have to listen to Rush.

There's no way to deal with that. If you can't reason with someone, you might as well quit.

BTW, we're both in our late 50's. She's not going to change.

Yep, this same shit obviously circulates very quickly across wingnut territory - one of them brought this up just a few days ago on a board where normally, a fairly intelligent level of discussion takes place despite a multitude of viewpoints. As this campaign has rolled along, they're clearly becoming increasingly desperate, and are reduced to these pathetic excuses for talking points...

48. I get this from family and neighbors all the time.
They go into shock when I tell them that I'm a socialist and I think we need to stop thinking that as a political system it's from the devil. Socialism has nothing to do with Soviet or Chinese style communism because they are totalitarian governments and socialism and democracy can be good bed mates and many post WWII European nations have proven this to to us. After that I get blank stares.

I blame it on our media who is propagandizing the populace and not educating them about these things as they should. Unfortunately, we don't have enough Thom Hartmanns out there who is such a good educator about these things. He had a brilliant program this morning explaining our whole oil economy from 1860 up through our invasions of Iraq and today's invasion of Georgia by Russia, all for our oil dependency. Our MSM should be broadcasting information about this and our print media examining it in depth, but they aren't doing it so we have a pathetically ill informed citizenry.

Political discussion has been so dominated by conservatives for so long that the right-wing shills can characterize a centrist like Obama as a "socialist" and not be laughed off the airwaves.

even if it means voting for Obama.

Seriously, although a socialist system could be an improvement, I don't see Obama or any other mainstream Democrat as even remotely Socialist.

Europeans mostly all have socialistic features to their economies. They have trains that run on time, they have free and/or universal healthcare, and generally better news media. It may not be all bad.

62. I agree with the first two points.
What with warrantless wiretapping, the destruction of the Fourth Amendment, the evisceration of the first, and many other violations (not to mention torture) I'd say that the Gov't is sticking its nose into people's business.

As for the second, I don't think the Gov't should care whether people are gay, straight, bi or whatever. nor should it tell people whether they can adopt children (with obvious exceptions, such as pedophiles (sic)). Nor should it tell a woman what she can do with her body.

As for the rest, I think they're ripe Obama supporters. They could be swung, just show them that Obama agrees with them.
