Does ANY one realize more damage is done to Elizabeth by obsessing over their private matter?
She figured the message and policies the two of them offered our country was MORE IMPORTANT than the private difficulties of THEIR situation. We act like freakin' rabid animals in comparison,...

WTF can't we be,...more sophisticated and intelligent than those who USE private issues to distract from problems effecting us all?

Sheesh!

Instead of gossiping like a bunch of screwed-up nuts, we should mourn the loss of messages BOTH THOSE PEOPLE sacrificed ON OUR BEHALF! The FACT neither were so shallow as to quit their fight for us over a personal issue should make everyone engaging in an obsessive-compulsive addiction to another's private weakness feel absolutely fucking ASHAMED!!!

4. When confronted with the question about this he chose the same old
party line of every lying cheater. he lied. Just like Clinton, Kennedy, and Roosevelt. yes it is a private affair. But it was damn stupid to lie about it when you know they are going to get you. Stupid.

THAT'S why we're so fucking apoplectic about this LYING HYPOCRITICAL BASTARD!!!

For those others, we are darned well justified in stating uncategorically IT WAS NOBODY'S FUCKING BUSINESS WHAT THEY DID!!!

which wasn't aparently the same at all for "holyier than thou" edwards!!! was it!!!

5. Oh, this passed out of the realm of "poor Elizabeth" long ago
We're well into the land of self-righteous posturing and applied know-nothingness wherein people indulge their favorite parlor game "how other people should live their lives." Qualifications to play include a pretty short list of lifetime accomplishments, an extensive list of personal failures, and miniimal ability to empathize, steamrolled by a vicious streak that rises triumphant when someone they perceive as a "better" makes a mistake.

For further examples, tune in Fox and watch the parade of Republican hypocrites.

Insert "The More You Know" theme and logo here.

11. Your intelligent and sophisticated post is so refreshing.
The RABID rightest crap has infected even the most diligent and concerned people.

It's sad,...really sad. The whole nation suffers as a result.

The worst terrorism on OUR DEMOCRACY has been the attack upon reason.

I see many who resist the notion that their emotions are intentionally being manipulated in order to attack their reason. That's how psy-ops work. It's worked well for every power-thirsty monger and, apparently, it will continue to work until they limit the only access that threatens them: the world-wide web.

8. WTF???
Talk about Orwellian double-speak! Edwards sacraficed on our behalf? What exactly did he sacrafice?

Also, running for president is proof Edwards is not shallow? I don't get it. He certainly was shallow enough to cheat on his cancer-stricken wife. Isn't that pretty shallow?

You can spin all you want to defend the guy, but what he did was despicable.

32. I understand
Some people really believed in him and trusted him. It's hard to accept that one's hero is not as great as you thought. So yes, there is some serious psychological defense mechanisms being thrown up by some folks around here.

For some reason, I never trusted the guy to start with -- always seemed too oily and glib and shallow. But I never suspected he'd cheat on his adoring wife.

9. Sorry hon, but both of them wanted to sacrifice THE PARTY on behalf of THEIR ambitions. Not cool.
The party has been dysfunctional far too long to risk a nominee that will remind people of the worst of the Clinton years.

As his closest advisor, she should have prevailed upon him the fatalism of his candidacy. She didn't. She belongs under the bus with him.

You have absolutely NO BASIS to assert that judgment,...as you so arrogantly proffer yourself as judge and jury!!!

Disgusting!

The only evil revelation you could possibly be proferring is YOUR OWN. It's called "projection" and those who believe themselves more righteous than others DO IT! Neocons do it!!! Cannabilistic corporacrats do it!!! Theocrats do it!!! Fascists do it!!! Tyrannical power-mongers from all walks of life do it!!!

Disgusting. :puke:

13. Relax!
Why such vitriol? You are seriously lashing out in a very hurtful fashion.

I agree with the previous poster -- if Edwards had decency, he would have backed out rather than pushing ahead and risking this thing coming out. Imagine if he had actually gotten the nomination, and then this exploded! It would be the end. McCain would be president. So Edwards risked the entire election on no one finding out his little secret. You may see it as noble to forge ahead to seek the presidency; I see it as the ultimate act of selfishness.

16. If "decency" was ACTUALLY the cause, here,...it would focus on PUBLIC ISSUES,...
,...rather than private struggles.

The ultimate act of selfishness, in my view, is obsessing over others' personal struggles rather than fighting for FREEDOM FROM INVASION into our personal struggles and FREEDOM FROM OPPRESSIVE intrusions into our privacy and FREEDOM FROM OPPRESSIVE ECONOMIC POLICIES and FREEDOM FROM OPPRESSIVE "RELIGIOUS" INFLUENCE and FREEDOM FROM AGGRESSIVE FOREIGN POLICIES and,...

,...freedom to pursue policies for the GREATER GOOD without being destroyed by a government possessed by profit and power.

You should watch ANY film about fascism. You CAN NOT MISS what this nation has become.

You could compare across all "governments" over the ages and admit, if you acknowledge the facts, greed and power is the human weakness we must overcome to save ourselves and the world.

17. So they risk this all coming out as an October Surprise???????
How the hell does THAT offer anything to our country? It would have meant the repukes being handed the Oval Office on a silver platter...again.
Edwards didn't do ANYthing on OUR behalf. Not only did he have the initial affair but then he lies about it for months and THEN goes back to meet the floozy in a hotel room. And still goes on to deny, deny, deny.
He didn't give a rat's ass about his family, the country, his suppoters who gave him money or any supporters who most likely spent a lot of time away from THEIR families to help Edwards campaign. Probably people who actually keep their pecker in their pants and really missed/loved THEIR families.

He didn't sacrafice shit.

Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 09:02 PM by TexasObserver
When a person who runs for president lies to his supporters, misrepresents who he is, solicits contributions on the strength of those lies, hires his paramour to work on the campaign, and engages in what appears to be a longterm subterfuge, it IS our business.

27. Yes, and they are understandably miffed.
If John was going to sell that old "I'm a Southern Baptist and Jesus didn't approve of gays where I done come from" spiel, he had to be true to the guy who still loved his wife, even if he was a lot prettier. He failed. Epic fall. The more I read about it, the worse I see it is.

When a politician has a major moral failure become news, over 90% of the time, he's been a moralizer who did not give gays and lesbians proper respect.

34. Those who insist on mentioning her in thread titles, as you have, are the problem.
If you want to respect her, ask to have your thread locked and don't start any more with her name in it.

There are issues that will be discussed about John's political failures. Use HIDE THREAD if you don't wish to see those threads.
