if we are lucky, once in our lifetime someone trancends politics as usual and has integrity
and a scope of the bigger picture.

Someone who truly loves America and is looking out for EVERY ONE and not just lobbyist and where the money is.

Someone who inspires hope and brings out the best in people.

Someone who looks out for the collective whole and not the individual

This someone in My lifetime I believe is Obama

~~
this is what I told a RWer today when asked why I was voting for Obama~~

arguing would not have been prudent. This seemed to strike a chord and provoke thought

1. For me, that would be Howard Dean. But I am glad that
Obama makes you feel like that. I had hope with Dean, I am glad you now have hope.

4. Dean was for me too.
Let's hope that Obama can do what Dean couldn't.

6. I know I get sad thinking about that and
other things that could have been. Instead we are treated to the nation's idiot making a fool of himself at the Olympics on our tax dime.

7. Obama gives me hope, but so did Edwards and I'm now feeling skeptical
about ALL politicians these days.....a sad, small, side effect of yet another politician lying.

8. You are a true diplomat and that answer is one of the best I have
heard. I have been fortunate in my lifetime to see more than one: FDR, JFK, RFK and MLK.

10. I believe Obama will be able to bring much-needed change to America
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 10:07 PM by Atman
Alas, I cannot share your optimism that Barack Obama is just a guy who loves America and wants to look out for everybody. Can't do it anymore. I'm 49; I've lived through JFK, RFK, MLK, Reagan, two Bushes, a Clinton who turned out not to be so Clinton-y...as historical figures, they've all turned out to have had some serious "character flaws" which continue to bring down otherwise good candidates every election cycle.

Don't get your knickers in a twist; I'm 100% behind BO (or maybe 99%, since I'm hedging in this very post), but I'm not 100% behind the idea that he's not being guided from somewhere else. I no longer believe it is possible to be elected President of the United States unless you've been seriously vetted by the people who already run the government and will continue to do so long after each successive president leaves office. The dark cynic in me says Obama is a good healing/leadership figure at a time when the country desperately needs one, and he will do some great things to help revive the American brand, but he's not doing it out of altruism. He might have been an altruist at one time, but he's tasted the blood. He's got it in him now. Ultimately, like all the rest, he'll answer to the old-timers and families who control everything out of shear financial might. He won't have a choice. None of them did.

14. I agree with you and dispute you. I no longer believe
he doesn't have people who have helped make this happen, but his message is one of compromise that people have embraced. His message, delivered by him.

I know I won't agree with him on everythiing he does, and haven't recently on FISA, but I do believe this man does have our best interests at heart. I also think FISA isn't a done deal.

I also think he knows how to compromise to get a lot further than to be too set in his ways; old men like McIcky are set in their ways.

11. I agree it looks more and more like the Obama Presidency would be
a transcendant one. Why the GOP will fight like dogs to win the election. They don't want another FDR.

12. Obama's the most qualified to be President, he's not the next Messiah
Do I believe that Obama will solve every world problem by 2012? No (which reminds me I need to post that Onion video of Edwards)

Do I believe that the world will be some sort of Utopian Wonderland by 2012? No

Do I believe it is possible for Obama to get roiled up, rightly or wrongly, in a scandal during his presidency? Possibly

Am I voting for Obama for his oratory skills? No

Am I voting for Obama for his policy positions? Absolutely

Do I believe some people may be harmed by Obama's policies? Probably those that short the market

18. I would have to say that person is Al Gore.
His love for America and the planet is demonstrated. His integrity and vision and command of facts is beyond reproach. His deeds and words will inspire future generations in ways we can't even know yet.
