Georgia: Another Bush screw up
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 05:21 AM by LuckyTheDog
But how did we expect Russia to react when we tried to draw its former republic into a MILITARY alliance formed for the sole purpose of opposing them? Putin's actions are not justifiable. They are totally out of proportion. But, given Russia's history, this was predictable. Bush pursued an unnecessarily provocative policy with regard to Georgia and it blew up in his face.

And, in all seriousness, I don't trust John McCain to be at the helm at a time when delicate, cool-headed action -- a combination of diplomacy and geopolitical chess playing -- is what is needed.

I would say this to McCain-ites: Obama, whatever you think about him personally, is surrounded by a very good foreign policy team. I also trust his instincts. McCain is surrounded by the kinds of ideologues who brought us the Iraq war. I honestly fear for our safety if McCain gets elected.

1. You aren't alone
I too fear for my safety under McCain. Let's remember - he joked about bombing Iran (along with a lot of other distasteful jokes). I can't imagine how he would react to an army that could do us serious damage.

2. At least the third time that a real confrontation appeared and Bush/Cheney*
backed down.

First, the spy plane that China captured. Bush* blustered, then took what China gave him.

The second, September 11, displayed their arrogance and lack of leadership. They were "deer in the headlights" and Americans felt sorry for them. "Adults in charge" indeed. With all of our intelligence information and the greatest military might ever, they were cowards.

Finally, the crisis in Georgia. Bush/Cheney* looked around for the weak sisters (Afghanistan and Iraq), bullied their way into those countries and got pinned down so they couldn't respond in Georgia.

Where's our air power? We could challenge the Russians, but we are going to lose some million/billion dollar planes.

They're not up to that, so we are again the impotent bully.

3. Impotent bully?
Don't say it too loud or we'll have to beat up on some defenseless victim to restore our honor.

4. I thought Georgia attacked Russia.
Russia was just defending itself.

6. Georgia attacked South Ossetia - a break away province.
There were Russian peace keepers in South Ossetia. Georgia had to know what the Russian response would be. I can'timagine why they did it.

5. This is a test of Obama's mettle, but not in the way the neocons would have you believe.

This is Obama's opportunity to put a nail in the coffin, to make it clear to one and all that McCain's foreign policy judgment is fatally flawed, and nearly always wrong.

McCain thought, and still thinks, that we needed to add a few more tens of thousands of American names on the Vietnam memorial wall in order to secure that phony "peace with honor" Nixon was peddling.

McCain thought that Iraq would be, his word, "easy." McCain supported Bush throughout the whole rotten enterprise, only to claim credit for calling for Rumsfeld's resignation after Rumsfeld had actually resigned--as if Rumsfeld was the only problem with our invasion and occupation of Iraq.

McCain can't keep Sunni and Shia straight. McCain thinks Iran trains al-Quaeda.

And now McCain reads from a script provided by a lobbyist to the Republic of Georgia, and a history cribbed from Wikipedia, utterly devoid of any provocative/stupid moves that the Republic has made in its young history.

McCain couldn't hit the side of a barn. He's terrible at this stuff. He is the Peter Principle personified, and shouldn't be permitted to hold a .22 revolver, let alone the nuclear football.

Obama needs to let the American public know this, and hit McCain hard, right where McCain lives.
