Anyone been watching the BBC during the Georgian crisis?
They seem to have been quite even-handed in their reporting of the situation (at least from what I've seen). On a couple of occasions (once this morning) they wouldn't let the usual Washington talking-heads get away with the RW talking points.

1. Yup, sadly, the foreign media provides a refreshing amount of journalism

In the US, we have a media oligopoly with the six major media outlets saying roughly the same thing. Its almost like price fixing, except it is truth fixing with no media outlet really doing any fresh reporting or investigation. Fact checking consists of letting pundits lob talking points at each other that bear no resemblence to reality, and the GOP is better at this propaganda exercise, because they are not even trying to be truthful.

So, when it comes to international affairs, I look at the NYT, BBC and started looking at the Christian Science Monitor. Also, NPR is still pretty good.

3. Don't bother with Le Figaro
It reads like the NYT and Washington Post.

Worthless.

The BBC, on the other hand, has been very good from the beginning, providing a lot of even handed background information on the area involved.

2. Very good coverage
Brits & Europeans understand that the Bushco lunatics who promote fighting them (whoever that is) over there could mean dead Europeans. They know the agreements and unlike the US, they also respect the UN.

Thankfully they know history and won't cave in to hot head RW war criminals.
