"Retrospectively, if we allowed Saakashvili to think we are strategically going to protect him, we probably made a big mistake," Wald said.

1. There was no mistake. War is good for the Republicans.

It was classic "Wag The Dog"(which I worked on). Tell Georgia we will back you and don't. Tell Puty-Poot we won't do any thing worse than bash you domestically.
