US plans to send troops to Georgia

The US is to send troops to embattled Georgia in the form of a humanitarian aid exercise, President George Bush said.

Mr Bush said military planes would deliver supplies in a move which would put American forces in the heart of the region.
.....................

Mr Bush said said the massive US humanitarian effort was already in progress and would involve US Naval forces as well as aircraft.

1. I have no problem with either humanitarian relief or diplomatic missions.
As long as that's ALL we're doing there.

18. Ever heard the phrase "fog of war".
And are you familiar with false flag attacks?

Remember the USS Liberty?

Inserting any "neutral" military units - for whatever reason - into war zone is not a good idea, especially if one of the nations involved is an historic rival with large quantities nuclear weapons.

Anything can happen - accidents, provocations, confused orders, misread coordinates, wrong approach paths.....All it takes is one guy firing the wrong weapon at the wrong time.

The bottom line is - are you willing to risk worldwide all out thermonuclear war to get this humanitarian assitance to Georgia?

19. As much as I hate and distrust the Chimp and his administration, I highly
doubt anyone is hoping for a provocative act to occur in order to justify our entering the fray against the Russians. Gates and the joint chiefs know that we don't have the ability to pick a fight, ESPECIALLY against Russia. I think it would be safest to stay out, but then again, we have a guilty conscience for encouraging Georgia to start shit.

21. It's not just us.
A Georgian or even a Russian madman could seek a wider war involving the US/NATO.

Might be a well orchestrated plan or a lone nut.

Then there's accidents. Sh*t happens, especially in war zones.

Will all parties act calmy if one of assets is accidentally shot down/blown up? A missile could malfunction and hit an unintended target miles away. Then what?

7. Fuck.
With the reckless actions of BOTH Georgia and Russia, putting our troops in there for ANY reason is stupid.

Why not just pour some gasoline on the fire.

15. Speaking of canine analogies, I posted this Monday...

We gave Georgia security assurances...

Georgia, thinking the US (and Israel??) has it's back, reasserts itself in South Ossetia...

Russia says "Enough is Enough" and moves in to teach Georgia (and everyone else in the region) a lesson with a disproportional response, including a near hit of the oil pipeline...

In addition, Russia rolls out the SS-21s to warn off the US...

Georgia finds itself with no backing after all...

The NeoCons are now sitting there like a dog whose nose was just slapped, talking big and getting ready to call Russia's bluff...

AND GOD KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT...

16. Here's another one....
In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

25. Time to push the "McCain = Draft" meme
McSame was pushing for military confrontation before Bush was. Hell, last week he was pushing for an urban "surge" in the U.S. to fight crime.

Voters need to be made aware that if they elect the president whose answer to everything is to send in the troops, then the only outcome will be a military draft.

14. On a related note, has anyone been listening to Thom Hartmann today?
He's putting forth the thought that perhaps the incident was cooked up with the help of McCain's right hand man, the lobbyist for Georgia. Kind of an October surprise in August. It some ways it makes sense since this catastrophe happened while Obama was on vacation and shortly after Karl Rove returned from the area "on vacation." Time to polish up the old tin chapeau.

26. Gotta get more weapons in there somehow.
So 'humanitarian aid' is a good wording.

its been noted that the russians had been taking all the equipment outa military bases they occupied and shipping them back to russia.
most of their weapons are russian made anyway.
