This Tropic Thunder marketing scheme is brilliant
They get it all over every newscast, celebrity glorification show, this website, and others like it in amazing prominence on the day it's released. For free.

I bet one-third of it's weekend take will be related to all the free publicity it's picked up due to the controversies.

4. Does the movie really feature such black humor? Or is it just pretending to be black?
By the way, how come it's not offensive to say "fucktard"?

9. Robert Downey Jr's character is an actor who has himself surgically made black
in order to get better roles.

There is nothing in this movie that is not lampooned.

10. I assume you're kidding, but if not, you can read about them on
the front page of any of these sites: cnn.com, msnbc.com, or nytimes.com.

11. One of the actors is shown as being insensitive about the mentally handicapped
He refers to a retarded character he once played as a "re-tard", a part he took only in a cynical ploy to get an Oscar nomination. An official from the Special Olympics organization, who has not seen the movie, is organizing a protest against the movie and is asking other people not to see the movie too. He seems to think that Ben Stiller is a real fucktard for making such an insensitive movie.

13. Ah... comedy is a tough business nowdays.
I don't think that is going to be an effective boycott. Surely they realize that the horribleness of making fun of a retarded person *is* the joke?

Whatever else it is, when someone calls someone else a "retard", they usually mean it to be an insult to the person receiving (as opposed to retarded people), not a joke. Just from the short synopsis Bucky left me above, I can see that the joke is on the character, not the subject the character describes as a "re-tard".

That one guy's article was so stupid I thought it must have been a parody.
