Michele Bachmann Watch, 8/13/08: ANWR beats Saudi Arabia

from ThinkProgress:

Bachmann: Arctic Refuge ‘is the most perfect place on the planet to drill.’»

The Wonk Room’s Brad Johnson notes that in an interview today, CNN’s Ali Velshi, who regularly trumpets dirty energy talking points, revealed that he recently traveled to northern Alaska with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), one of Congress’s most vocal Big Oil promoters:

VELSHI: I want to talk to you first about this because those pictures we just showed, we took from an airplane. You were with us on that airplane. You went up there to get a sense for yourself about the impact of drilling in ANWR.

“I came away with the idea that this is the most perfect place on the planet to drill,” Bachmann said of the trip. Watch it: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/13/bachmann-arctic-refuge-is-the-most-perfect-place-on-the-planet-to-drill/

Recently, Bachmann has claimed that Alaskan caribou are attracted to the “warmth” of oil pipelines, falsely blamed Democrats for blocking renewable energy incentives, and repeated the lie about China drilling off Florida.

4. What is it about Minnesota's 6th District that has the majority there re-electing Bachmann?

6. MN's Sixth District is overloaded with suburban Babbitvilles.
Places like Woodbury and Maplewood and Oakdale and Bayport and Forest Lake and they're all strongholds of the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life and similar fruitbat caves.

That's not to say there aren't any normal people at all living, there, there's plenty... but they're vastly outnumbered by Betty Bowers clones.

Tragic.

I got out as soon as I could. It would not be going too far to say that the effort I put in to graduate from High School at age sixteen was because I feared for my reason in Bayport, MN.

shudderingly,
Bright

9. Actually, she only got 50% of the vote last time. Spread the word about her opponent,
who would be tons better at this job.

12. Bachmann is in her first term in Congress
prior to that she was in the state legislature.

Before Bachmann, the 6th District was represented by Mark Kennedy who gave up the seat to run for Senate 2 years ago. He was creamed by Amy Klobuchar.

7. This statement is soooo stupid I don't even know were to begin
"Recently, Bachmann has claimed that Alaskan caribou are attracted to the “warmth” of oil pipelines".
How does she know this? Almost all of the pipelines are above ground, out of reach of the caribou. They are also insulated with 4" of foam.

10. And it gets worse... recently she claimed that since Jesus saved the world 2000 yrs ago that
the world won't need saving from global warming. True nutcase.

11. Please, I beg you. Pay attention to this woman
She threatens to be "the mainstream" of current GOP supporters.

Unless you manage to discredit her ideas, marginalize her messages and shame her radical ideologies, she WILL become a role model, ideal and leader of a disastrous movement.

Please, people of Minnesota. You're rational and down-to earth. You are the only ones to reject Reagan in his first election, a prescient move.

Michele Bachman isn't America.
