Jackson Browne files suit against GOP: Browne: You Should Know, I'm Not Team McCain!
Guess elephants have some serious short-term memory issues! Everyone knows singer Jackson Browne is a serious liberal, everyone except, apparently, John McCain. Now Browne is fighting mad and has filed suit against McCain and his party, alleging they falsely suggested he was on their side.

Browne claims the GOP used his epic hit "Running on Empty" in an ad for McCain without his permission, adding that the ad mocks Barack Obama, which Browne ain't none too happy about.

The suit wants the ad to stop running -- STAT -- and is seeking damages. Browne's lawyer Lawrence Iser says this ain't the first time McCain has done this -- he did it with ABBA's "Take a Chance on Me" and well-known Democrat John Mellencamp's song "Pink Houses." Iser says "In light of Jackson Browne's lifelong commitment to Democratic ideals and political candidates, the misappropriation of Jackson Browne's endorsement is entirely reprehensible."

McCain's rep Tucker Bounds shoots back "This was not a McCain campaign ad, but rather a local state Republican party ad. It is clear that the suit was mis-filed by an overeager Barack Obama supporter and it's 'running on empty;."

4. Odd Choice for a campaign song
Maybe the best response is just let him use it! Those lyrics suggest that they are rather too, that is, McDimBrain's head is empty!

2. What's with the GOP and copyright violations?
Six years ago (while running against Wellstone) Normie Coleman kept singing parts of "The Times They Are a'Changin'" - there was a snip of him doing this at the state Republican convention - but then he stopped. There was rumor that his campaign had received a cease and desist order from Bob Dylan's lawyers, but I never heard that was confirmed.

12. Perhaps one explanation is that repukes do not respect the law.
This is just another glaring example.

5. Republicans just continue to break copyright laws. McCain has done it repeatedly. They want to get
the initial airplay and media coverage and truly don't care that they are breaking the law.

They did it with the Frankie Valli song - Can't take my eyes off you - and with the Wayne's World clip.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Dog bites man news. They are pathetic and unethical.

13. The problem is there aren't very many decent songs by Republican artists.
They'd be stuck with the songs of Ted Nugent or Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter (and they aren't really 'his' songs, he was just a session guitarist in Steely Dan and the Doobie Bros.).

15. What's wrong with Lee Greenwood, huh?
You'd think he'd want a song by a REAL American, wouldn't you? Hey! I'm sure Charlie Daniel would consent, too!

LMAO! Sorry, old man, the kids don't WANT you using their music!

16. McCain's rep misses the point here. Whether McCain or a local campaign, the GOP stole
someone's work.

18. Good for him! I love Jackson Browne. And yeah, you'd have to be
a complete moron not to know he wouldn't be supporting McCain.

Then again, you'd have to be a complete moron to be working for McCain...
