:silly:

Besides, I got "training" in beach volleyball in Viet Nam. We had a sandbag-ringed court filled with sand and played ourselves to exhaustion in that heat and humidity. (It was a good counterpoint to getting drunk on vodka gimlets.) I was good at setting and spiking, not as good at digging and blocking.

too stoned to walk.

21. I'm a woman, and I was glad to see the Belgian women actually had some body fat on them.
Not rail-thin and shapeless like the American women. I think that carries the potential to lead to unrealistic expectations of body image in eyes and mind of American girls, with the possible negative consequences that can follow.

DH also commented on the Belgian women. We both think that women are supposed to have some body fat on them. That's the way the good Lord made us.

22. I completely agree. I don't really look at them as women, so much as freaks

of physique. Like supermodels, NFL tackles and Lance Armstrong.

I prefer the body shape of women cyclists, m'self.....my wife rides 10-25 miles a day commuting. She looks great. She is not volleyball thin, and her shape has a very specific reason. For that matter, a very specific purpose, too.

I mean if we're objectifying women, which I almost never do, except when I'm awake.

23. Maybe not freaks, but certainly not standard-bearers.
American girls need to be reminded that these women are aberrations, not the norm.

25. My six-year-old was watching with me last night, and he said,
looking at the two American women, "Mom, they have no breasts!"

I just chuckled and was inwardly proud that he used the correct terminology.

8. i know!
five set points.

they could have lost that first set and still come back to win.

but they didn't. they wouldn't. they refused. they fought back. and they won. that brought tears to my eyes.

their performance was the definition of what it means to be an athlete...

14. Did you watch that one a coupla days ago, the US against Cuba?
Our women won the first set, theirs won the second, and the third set was close at around 14 each. Then they switched to swimming???

I was distracted but I never did catch the end of that one. WTF, did I dream that?

16. How many players and fans does American football have?
Let's see, thirty two teams, fifty three players, you do the math. Meanwhile, according to FIVA, there are thirty three million registered volleyball players, and upwards of a billion fans.

Junk sport my ass. Typical American viewpoint, self centered and myopic:eyes:

26. Yeah and TV ads for volleyball sell for what?
Three bucks?
Hopefully the Olympics will be gone soon so all these joke sports can go hide for another four years.
At least ESPN isn't wasting much time on them.

18. I saw it. I was lucky to have turned on my tv.

Its was a nice set. It was great to see May-Walsh overcome a serious challenge.

Its too bad the Belgium team couldn't keep up the pressure. Of course I still would want the Belgium team to lose to us.

Maybe with a little more conditioning, the Belgium team will be a contender next time.
