The new minority-majority was inevitable.. Thanks to Reagan

here's why:

Family-supporting wages went away just as the largest generation entered adulthood.. Many women did NOT want to go out and bust their asses and schlep babies & toddlers to daycare, but they had no choice.. Either they got jobs outside the home, or the family did not have enough money to enter (or try to) middle class..

The many children of the boomer parents came from the lifestyle of the era.. Men made enough money to support a family, buy cars, buy houses, take vacations, send the kids to camp, AND to allow their wives to stay home and raise those children..

Modern women, beginning with the boomers had to CHOOSE, so of course they limited their families, thanks to better birth control, and once in the job market, many, if not most, liked the idea of making their own money and charting their own futures.

When a whole generation chooses to limit their families, it's impossible to expect anything different, so for all the freeps and racists who lament the fact that anglos will be the minority, they have no further to look, than in their own family portraits..

Depressed wages and globalization only adds to the fact that poor people from other places WILL come her to do that work, and they WILL form families. Their lifestyles left behind were SO poor, that many will form families where Moms stay home and have many children, even though they may not have much money..they will have more than they had in their country of origin.

When the Europeans were hot to get here, they had no reason NOT to, but with all the advantages that they have now, why on earth would anyone except for the poorest of the poor even try to come her anymore?

1. Here's How This Is A Red-Herring...
In 40 years, those who were "immigrants" will be either naturalized citizens or their children will have assimilated into the "melting pot". All you have to do is look back 100 years at the large surge of immigrants at that time. There were great fears of Eastern Europeans over-running cities and the "great unwashed" bringing their communism with them. The fear was unfounded as those immigrants worked hard to become part of the American culture. My grandparents came from Russia in 1906...my father never knew a word of Russian and just a smattering of Yiddish as their parents became "Americans".

For many years, I've been fortunate to work with various ethnic groups...Poles, Mexicans, Russians, Hindu-Pak...and there's one common thread with all these people...it's their desire to be "American"...that learning English is the ticket to the better life and their children are brought up in the culture...television, schools and so on...and they have more in common with "real Americans" than with their country of origin.

So...by 2042 many of those so-called "immigrants" and minorities will no longer be such. But the fear sure sounds good.

2. You have a fact wrong.
Those limiting their family size most are usually better educated, professional people--white or black, whatever. Usually less church-going, more wealthy.

They're also usually more secular, more Democratic. If you look at white fertility figures they track fairly nicely with how red and blue a county's been, on average, over the last 20 years.

This wasn't true when Dems consistently got the working-class and rural vote (lic. before 1965). But nobody's talking history; we're talking present and projected future.

BTW, minority status for "anglos" isn't actually inevitable, since the assumptions used to make the projection assume continued immigration and higher birth rates among immigrants.

And "anglo" is an insult if your ancestry's all Celtic, and irrelevant if you're not Anglo-Saxon. It's like insisting a Zapotec Mexican is "Spanish", naming them after their conquerors and oppressors.
