Michael Phelps accused of cheating
By Dr. Alexei Koudinov, editor of the Israel-based Doping Journal Web site.

"I first noticed that before his first gold swim on August 10: Phelps removed earphones 2 minutes before the start, and he was the only swimmer who worn earphones at the pool deck. Intriguing scientific evidence testifies: Listening to music improves blood oxygen capacity and is a performance enhancement."

Such an enhancement is "a bio-chemical feedback mechanism from an external source."

Forget the hard work, intensive training and complete dedication to his sport. He's doing it by listening to an iPod.

If the IOC had been worried about the effects of music, they would have addressed it way before now.

25. I saw something that said that although he's 6'2", his upper body is proportional to somebody 6'8".
...and I watched him swim...I think his legs are really fish tails. They move in ways human legs aren't supposed to move.

28. I think they said he is 6'4" and his legs are proportionate
to a 6' man while his upper body is proportionate to a 6'8" man - and these two are both advantageous to swimming. It really takes a lot of muscle mass to move that fast.

22. Good grief....
when my daughter was a competitive figure skater, she spent the 30 minutes before she took the ice to listen to her music so she could do the routine in her head. It was calming for her, and sometimes changed the choreography :silly:

I'll explain this more for the Winter Olympics threads. Heh.

Unless the IOC decides to add this nonsense to their list of rules, then Phelps isn't cheating.

34. this just in..
recent studies have shown that breathing increases blood oxygen capacity. Therefore, all the athletes have been cheating since the first olympics. All records are invalid. All medals should go to those who won them honestly, i.e. without breathing. :smoke:

36. If listening to an iPod alone will turn you into a champion swimmer like Phelps,
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 08:56 PM by BerryBush
I should have about 50 Olympic gold medals around my neck.

Naah, something tells me his success might have something to do with his having the absolute ideal body for a swimmer, coupled with years of hard work, conditioning, training and both physical and mental discipline. Just a hunch, but unless he's mainlining steroids 24/7 and it's not showing up in any of the doping tests, that could be the explanation for why he's a champion and I am not.

37. STFU, Dr. Koudinov
If you have any legitimate PROOF of cheating, present it RIGHT NOW.

Otherwise, shut your soup-hole.

And I say that as a Canadian, NOT an American with something to gain.
