Florida DU'ers get ready for Fay!

She may be nothing but some rain, or she may be something much worse.
Now is the time to check your preparedness :)

Edited to add:
Watch for the track to shift eastward over the next day or two.....

3. I'm in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area.
The track usually shifts eastward when it hooks like that. Watch this one closely. Remember Andrew and don't take for granted that it's "just a tropical storm".....

10. Believe me, I don't take for granted ...
I lost my house in Hurricane Jeanne, so I'm always cautious. :)

Was down in Miami (Coral Gables, to be exact) today for physical therapy. I love the area!

12. I did emergency work after Jeanne. I was there before the wind stopped.
I remember the highway having several FEET of sand and front end loaders clearing it off so I could pass in my bucket truck.

4. Hope the track stays like that...

...keep it over land so it cannot build up strength.

6. Odds are, you're right. But the exception to that was monumental.
Andrew blew up from a tropical storm to a cat 5 monster overnight right off the coast. There are no guarantees.

5. A good website for monitoring tropical storms in Florida
My friend in Tampa. Even FEMA uses his webpage.

8. That's a very cool site.
But I expect the track to shift eastward. Just a hunch based on past storms.

Many of my friends are in Tampa right now. Big event going on there this week and especially this weekend, and I can't go :(
Oh well, next year.

7. Tuesday is the first day back to school
and work for me. I have only been here a year. I know nothing about hurricanes. My husband will be back up in NY for 10 days. I am alone with my two cats and don't have anyone in this state.

Wonderful timing.

11. Hurricanes are no joke.

You can be without power, water, phone, assistance for days or weeks depending.
The best way to prepare is to plan a camping trip. The real kind of camping.
I don't think this will be much of anything, but we won't know until it's too late to prepare for worse.
Think about preparations. Talk your neighbors that lived through Charley or Wilma.

13. It's That Time of Year Again
:boring:

I live in Central Florida, but it gets very wearying - a hurricane is coming. No it's not. Yes it is. Maybe.

My car tank is full of gas, I have plenty of empty containers to fill with water, a hand crank flashlight and some canned goods. I also have powdered milk. In 2004 I had lots of crackers and snack bars. I have a bit of a dilemma this year since I started trying to watch my carbs. The low fat string cheese won't keep without refrigeration, and neither will the celery and cucumber rounds I've started putting my tuna salad on (instead of crackers). So, I guess I need to figure out something.

I guess I could just get the junk food in case of hurricane and if we don't get hit donate it to a food pantry.
