Breaking: Judge May Hold CIA In Contempt For Destruction Of Evidence
By: Christy Hardin Smith Tuesday August 19, 2008 10:55 am

Demolished tape via INDEED. Great shot!

This just in from the ACLU (via e-mail):

Late yesterday,a federal judge said he is considering holding the Central Intelligence Agency in contempt for destroying videotapes depicting the interrogation of al Qaeda detainees. Judge Alvin Hellerstein of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York ordered the CIA to identify everything that it had destroyed and also catalogue all summaries, transcripts, information on witnesses and any relevant documents or memoranda within 30 days after an order is entered.

That sound you hear is the scurry of little feet outside David Addington's office.

2. I would like to think that Addington and
shootsguyinface are at least a little worried about any of this, but I suspect they are probably having a good laugh amongst themselves right about now.

3. So who gets arrested when it's a federal agency in contempt?

8. No one. Haven't you noticed? Crimes don't lead to arrest in this administration.
Nor do they lead to investigations, prosecution or even-- MEDIA COVERAGE (except here and an occasional mention on Countdown and Air America). Not illegal wiretapping, illegal jailing of US citizens, partisan judges, torture- Not EVEN MURDER (or lying to commit murder). When fascists make the rules (and destroy the constitution), no one GETS Arrested- unless of course, they want them to.

10. I'm not aware of a time a judge has issued a contempt charge against this administration
congress is spineless. But when a judge issues something it's a lot different. I'm just curious who would go to jail as a result.

12. And Just Why Exactly Should Crimes Lead to Arrest? ....
Bushie would just pardon the criminals anyway!

15. Exactly. None of it matters- I so want these criminals to get what is due to them-
a few years in GITMO would be fine with me- ALL OF THEM-- and I want them lined up for one of those naked Pyramid photos-- and perhaps a bit of waterboarding fun too.

9. Just what would it mean to hold an Agency in Contempt?
If a person is in contempt they can be tossed in jail of course, but what does it mean for an Agancy to be cited? Who cares? What difference will it make?

13. I'm sure Alvin will consider and consider and consider and consider holding them in contempt,
but never actually do it.

14. Keep the pressure on, they're bound to make a 'hugh' mistake
of global consequences. I'm still hopeful.
