Short but worthwile article about offshore drilling from USA Today

"47 companies make bids for Gulf offshore oil leases"

The article points out NO offers were made for 90% of the acreage available on the auction block! Not only that but most of Tuesday's offers were for only 10-year terms, which the article pointed out would have little impact on gas prices now.

JUST BECAUSE MORE LAND IS AVAILABLE FOR DRILLING DOES NOT MEAN MORE WILL BE DRILLED. Of course, most of us are already aware of this fact given that oil and gas companies are already sitting on several leases but it definitely bears repeating over and over again.

They want to destroy those areas.
