Man dies after waiting 22 hours at N.C. hospital
A mental patient died after workers at a North Carolina hospital left him in a chair for 22 hours without feeding him or helping him use the bathroom, said federal officials who have threatened to cut off the facility’s funding.

The state sent a team Tuesday to help Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro draft new procedures to ensure patients receive proper care.

An investigator’s report released Monday found that 50-year-old Steven Sabock died in April after he choked on medication and was left sitting in a chair for close to a day at the facility about 50 miles southeast of Raleigh. Surveillance video showed hospital staff watching television and playing cards just a few feet away.

HOW can this happen? Prayers for Mr. Sabock and his family.

2. Some people have learned to shut off their empathy gland apparently
unfortunate that they choose to work in health care.

is when you're an EMBRYO. After that, you're on your own. Absolutely despicable.

7. ERs already do that
but when every ER in town is full to the brim, they have to start taking everybody who walks through the door, no matter what.

ERs are the places people go if they have insurance and get the flu and are scared and hurting, even though the only cure for the flu is time; it's the family physician of last resort for people without insurance. Instead of dealing with what they were designed to--catastrophic, quick illness like heart attack and stroke plus fractures and trauma from gunshot and accident--they're dealing with what general practitioners would have seen had those general practitioners not been sitting behind a wall of HMO bureaucracy and rendered unaffordable.

If you want to see how broken our system is, go to an ER and people watch for a few hours.

It's no surprise that people fall through the cracks. The only surprise is that so few actually do.

6. This is so sad. Over twenty years ago the hospitals here in
Wisconsin were stocked and staffed for just that moment. I forget the correct term. They were not prepared for a disaster it was found out because it would cost to much. But the marble floors and beautiful private lunch rooms for the elite were built anyways. Those big pharma co. and those big insurance co. are making money hand over fist. Not the nurses though. When they asked for better wages from one of the largest growing hospital chains here-Aurora, the CEO told them to marry rich spouses. I jot down a few significant factors driving this crazy situation. I'm sure there are others.
