Is Condi trying to start a war? WTF?
The AP:

"Rice dismissed blustery comments from Russian leaders who say Warsaw's hosting of 10 U.S. interceptor missiles just 115 miles from Russia's westernmost frontier opens the country up to attack.

Such comments 'border on the bizarre frankly,' Rice said. (She's know!)

'When you threaten Poland, you perhaps forget that it is not 1988,' Rice said. 'It's 2008 and the United States has a ... firm treaty guarantee to defend Poland's territory as if it was the territory of the United States. So it's probably not wise to throw these threats around."

3. Maybe one for each opinion: yes, no, maybe. It's a novel idea to cut down on arguing.

Yeah, like none of the rest of us have double posted, right? :)

2. To be fair...
Most of those "threats" came from a Russian general, not from Putin or Medvedev.

Still, it would be nice if Condiliar just STFU.

4. She said if they invaded Poland, we (along with NATO) would step in and defend Poland.
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 10:25 AM by sparosnare
I heard her say it on NPR and it sounded like a dare; as if she WANTED them to do it.

I'd like to know how we'd defend Poland; our military has nothing left.

5. yes, Condi, this is 2008, not 2002, when we actually still had an army to cash
your war check.

8. The bush administration is a toothless wonder. The only countries
they can attack are those who cannot defend themseleves like Iraq

There is no way they will confront Russia with military

However, ever since the bush administration threw away the ABM treaty, that was the beginning of the cold war again

9. True, but the Russians CAN confront us with their military.
That's what scares me.

It would be interesting to see which side Turkey lined up on, btw.

11. It won't happen, the U.S. won't push it that far because they can't win
as stupid as this administration is, they are not that stupid

They have also sqwandered all their resources in Iraq, and Afganistan

If the U.S. continues to play these games, I can see Russia supplying the taliban weapons against us in Afganistan, like we did against them when they were in Afganistan

The sooner bush is out of office the better\

They have effectively brought back the cold war

12. It was so good for business! Don't mess with success!
That damn Reagan really screwed the golden goose!

I don't think Vlad is stupid enough to start supporting the Talibs, btw. They hate him as much as they hate us.

And the Russians have to figure amything they send to the Talibs will wind up back in Chechnya and Dagistan.

13. Actually, they ARE that stupid.
AND they've been drooling over the prospect of a mushroom cloud for seven years now. They won't hesitate a moment before pushing the button. They don't give a damn where the missiles fly to- they just want a big explosion. ANYWHERE.

14. Are You F'ing Serious?
What alarmist nonsense! If Russia was to "confront" us with their military they would look like Georgia did. Sure our ground forces are depleted but our air force and navy is unscathed. Why do you think they threatened to use nukes if smart weapons were used against them in the Georgia episode? If Russia had anything for the US they would STFU and use it. Oh, and Turkey would line up with NATO seeing as they are, you know, a member.

15. Putin doesn't care what he looks like.
This is the guy who destroyed Chechnya, water skied while 118 sailors died, and killed hundreds of hostages just to kill a few hostage takers, just for starters. He's not too concerned about his public image.

Plus, I was just opining, calm down!

Our navy, btw, can't get into the Black Sea to deal with the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Turks won't let them. If we were to tell the Turks kiss our asses and intrude into their sphere of influence, they might just decide their nuclear tipped neighbor who has lots of oil to boot, might be a better bet.

And our air force? Please!
