Universal Health care should be #1 issue
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 11:31 AM by salinen
Let's forget for the moment that it is morally correct. Another great reason is that it's really expensive. Yes, being really expensive is wonderful. And having it be managed by the government is also wonderful. I'll explain. Where are most of our tax dollars headed? That's right, to the Military/Industrial/Cheney Complex. There is nothing the people get for their return on this behemoth overkill investment. Except less security. The M.I.C.C. is there to protect the Multi-nationals against having their stolen property returned to the rightful owners. You know, IRAQ! Universal Health Care is exactly what we need to drown the M.I.C.C. in the bathtub. The M.I.C.C. has all the money. So, since they have all the money, congress effectively acts as the board of directors for the M.I.C.C. They need new jobs. Let them manage a massive health care system.

1. The health care issue is always clouded up by how it would be financed
When it comes down to it, people don't want to pay more taxes to pay for what they think is somebody else's medical care. Universal heath care goes off the table as soon as the numbers start getting discussed.

2. Right-O
Universal Health Care will actually have people paying more for OTHER people's care than they are under the current system.

There are some major problems with our current health care system but we should strive to address THOSE issues specifically, rather than starting a new system that will create a whole host of new problems.

4. Huh?
How can you know what it will take? New system bad? Why? Change = bad? Why? At this moment I know that the military is wasting money at a rate that is bankrupting an entire nation. But your speculative hyperbole is interesting.

6. Single payer should be the number 1 issue
Everything else will be a bitch to explain to people and will end up dying in committee because you don't pass bureaucratic nightmares, you pass simple stuff.

8. It should be. But it won't be. For either party.
I don't know how bad things have to get before we deal with this, but we're not there yet. Apparently.

13. Correction:
Universal single-payer, not-for-profit health CARE, not insurance, should be the # 1 issue.

Because certain Democratic politicians like to make points on corporate insurance plans by calling them "universal" and referring to health "care."
