Lately I've Been Getting "Dangerous Site" Warnings When I'm On DU From My Security Program......
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 04:10 PM by global1
It cites the following: http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ads?..... (and whole lot of numbers and letters after that).

Is there something going on with DU? Has the DU site been compromised? Or is this just some quirk of my computer and security program - which is trend micro.

The warning is that it is a "phishing" site and could steal my personal info.

What gives? How can I stop the warnings?

On Edit: Here's the actual warning and the suggested resolution:

The web site you wish to open shows signs of involvement in "phishing" a scam in which a criminals' web site masquerades as a legitimate commercial site to obtain your credit card number or other personal information for nefarious purposes.

It instructs me to: Close your web browser window and do not reopen this web site.

Just curious - did *CO plant this on here to dissuade us from using DU? Does this fall under FISA spying?

1. Email the info to the administrators.
They need to know - something weird might be happening.

4. Somewhere on another thread...
someone said that their security software was saying some ads are phishing. Contact the admins. If you can identify the specific ads, that would probably help them a lot.

5. I just got an e-mail with a trojan horse attached--so said Kaspersky--
as I was reading a thread in the Lounge. Attachment was quarantined and I deleted
the e-mail and dumped the trash.

The subject line indicated it was some notification of a FedEx tracking number--but I didn't recognize
the sender.

6. I get them occasionally on Avast
It appears in my log file as either a scanning error or a scanning warning. Funny thing is, it doesn't alert me to it, I only know because I occasionally look at the log files.

I know my anti-virus is working because it caught a trojan yesterday. I'm just not sure what the scanning error/warning means.

8. Quit using IE and any browser that uses IE as it's foundation.
"Phishing" is a site or a person trying to get you to give them information. This is much easier than using a hack to enter your system and taking it.
