"Kill the APNewsAlert saying U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died.
Fuck you AP.

<snip>
But then a doctor at the hospital said Tubbs Jones was alive but in critical condition. According to AP: "Dr. Gus Kious says the 58-year-old Tubbs Jones suffered a brain hemorrhage in an inaccessible part of her brain and that a team of doctors who evaluated her determined she has limited brain function." The Plain-Dealer revised its report. AP moved the following, unfortunately-worded update: "Kill the APNewsAlert saying U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died. A doctor says she is in critical condition."

It is not clear why Capitol Briefing's source and those cited by other news organizations believed she had died, though it may be related to confusion over a report in the Plain-Dealer saying she had been taken off life-support. Capitol Briefing apologizes for the error and will be more careful as he continues to report this story.

5. I wonder if changing it to "abort" would bring the high dudgeon down a notch or two.

7. We all know but sometimes we can use a better choice
of words. Others corrected the story without using 'kill'.

9. no argument here
just an unfortunate accident for Ms. Tubb-Jones, and for the AP.

But they did call LIE-berman a prick so I will cut them an iota of slack. One time only.

14. Welcome to DU! That's pretty good (anymore) but the original wire service joke was
you can't spell CHEAP without AP. And its corollary was - you can't spell STUPID without UPI.

4. Ed Shultz Gave The Report Of Her Death On The Air Today And Later Issued A Retraction.......
the first thought I had was that there was some political reason that came up that - if she was dead as reported - either a party would lose a seat or something. I thought that maybe that her handlers had to make sure something was in place before they announced her dead. I guess my tinfoil hat is too tight.

13. I wondered if they discontinued life support, but
she had enough brain function left to continue breathing. I have heard of that happening before. There is another report now that she passed away at about 6:20 tonight. RIP, Ms Tubbs-Jones. My thoughts go out to your family.

As unfortunate as this is, from the descriptions of her condition in the hospital, this is probably the best outcome, and I'm glad that it didn't drag out for the family,

19. I can't believe she didn't have headaches all this time
Do you know if she traveled by plane recently. The hardest part is that she was all alone when it happened. How sad is this.

20. Lost a high school friend at age 57....
She went suddenly with no warning and no symptoms. She was getting ready to go to work and was late...her daughter went to check on her. When they found her she was already brain dead (hemorrhage in her brain)...but they were able to donate her organs.

Fast way to go but awfully hard on those left behind with no warning. My thoughts go out to the family.

21. I thought she had a cerebral aneurysm
I had two friends who knew they had this type of aneurysm for a few months and then went overseas for treatment. Both died within hours of landing in Florida.

That's a nice way to go. What amazed me in the report was that her car was still moving and at high speed.

23. A very dear person, who changed my life, died suddenly in 1997
of an aneurysm, she collapsed at work and was dead before she hit the floor. 53 years old, bright, vibrant, helping, happy, empathtic loving woman. I was totally crushed by her death. I think of her everytime I return to Phila., my daughters used to live about 5 mi. from the cemetary where she is intered.

Anyone can have one at anytime, the brain is an imperfectly built organ.
