California mulls probing senator over IndyMac crash
Wed Aug 20, 2008 6:51pm EDT

By John Poirier

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - California's attorney general
is reviewing a request by former employees of IndyMac
Bancorp Inc to investigate whether a New York senator
triggered the bank's collapse by releasing confidential
information.

At issue is a much-publicized letter that Chuck Schumer,
a Democrat, sent in June to the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corp (FDIC) and Office of Thrift Supervision
(OTS) questioning the company's ability to survive.

In a letter to Attorney General Jerry Brown last week,
51 former IndyMac workers wrote: "From the day
(Schumer's) letter was made public on June 26 until the
closure of the bank, a run on the bank took place and
the failure became inevitable."

Brown's spokeswoman Christine Gasparac said on
Wednesday that his office was reviewing the letter and
that a decision on whether to act on it could be made
as early as next week.

IndyMac is based in Pasadena, California.

3. If what Schumer said in the letter was true, how can that possibly
against the law? I'm all kind of sorry that the bank failed, and somebody let the cat out of the bag before they wanted it to happen, but that's life in the world of greedy finance!

6. Exactly. The FDIC troubled banks list is soooo top secret.
Don't panic the People by giving them information which could save them from suffering a loss.

Here Schumer was just trying to cover his ass because he came into knowledge that his conscience told him the public had a right to know.

8. no one is going to suffer a loss if they
keep less than a hundred thousand in a bank. their money is insured. anyone that keeps more in one account is a fool

9. A very good reason why the FDIC troubled bank list doesn't need to be kept secret.

4. I am no fan of Schumer, but why doesn't Congress start impeachment proceedings
on this criminal administration?
