I have to agree about this night being wasted,
But not for the same reasons that the pundits have talked about.

This night should have been saved for the palette cleansing after the Clinton's night. What a lead in to Barack's acceptance this could have been.

1. God, I will be happy when we are past all this shit. The Clintons will
give rousing endorsements of the Democratic Platform and Barack Obama.

9. No its better the way they are doing it.
Too many people invested all their hearts and souls into HRC and BO. To toss HRC off on the first day is insulting. No, give her the respect she's earned and let her supporters have something to take home. This is a time for healing, not acting like sore winners.

There is a damn good reason Grant (and J.L. Chamberlain by act) went out of their way to accept, honorably, the surrender of the South at Appomattox. Those men were our country men and our brothers, kicking them when they were down does nothing to start the healing process. Same for this political rift, dissing HRC and her supporters gives us nothing, and takes all their hard work and drive away. That's crazy.

Welcome back HRC supporters! You fought a good fight. Now let's join together and get our eyes on the real ball --> Tossing the corrupt GOP out on their asses so we can get to work cleaning their mess.

Its about the work folks, not about who is right or wrong.

14. For crying out loud,
Hillary gets tomorrow and Bill gets Wednesday.

Should they get the whole fucking convention?

Newsflash: Hillary lost. Sorry to break the news to ya.

3. If this is the first night? It can only get BETTER !!!!
Stop being negative. Just my advice.

You bring yourself down with this and those around you.

It is not needed this week.

5. Perhaps I sounded a little more harsh than I Intended
I have no animosity toward the Clinton's, it's just that if I was scheduling things I would have saved this night for later. Palette cleansing refers to fine wine tasting, no doubt the Clinton's will do fine, but they will not be able to match Michelle's fire, and it would have been a hell of a lead in.

6. Good! The first night has to be an explosion and the Clintons are on the back burner!!
As they should be. This isn't 'their' convention...

... this is Obama's time, day... week... years.

This is HIS time, his show.

I'm was not an HRC supporter and I'm a middle aged white woman.

7. I respectfully disagree.....Its best to lead off strong. If people are bored
on the first night, why should they return the second? A very emotional, sentimental, strong, mostly positive first night is an excellent start to a convention.

Those who watched tonight will come back for more because of what they saw tonight...

8. Disagree.
1. Michelle Obama set the perfect tone.

2. Putting Teddy K. right out front on the dashboard of the whole convention made an important, and valuable, pair of statements. First, we know Republicans don't like him, and we couldn't care less. Second, this convention isn't going to be about trying to reach/appease/not offend everyone (i.e. another flaccid pile of lifeless uninspiring goop), but is instead going to be about FUCK YEAH WE ARE DEMOCRATS AND THIS IS HOW WE ROLL, which is exactly the message this party needs to get revved up for the downhill run.

This is going to be a week-long high-five for Democrats everywhere. No attempts at pleasing everyone, and no shying away from showcasing stuff that'll piss off the GOP. Fuck'em.

So yeah, between Michelle and Teddy, this was a perfect night to start with.

and I just stay home and watch. I don't know how to run a campaign, it was just a thought, you know, build to a climax.

15. Do me a favor
Your perspective is 100% valid, so if you can make the time, I'd really be interested in your take at the end of the week. Throw me a PM after Obama accepts the nomination (in prime time before a crowd of 70,000 cheering Democrats), and let me know if you feel like your concerns were justified.

I don't know, either, but it should be interesting no matter what. Thanks, and cheers. :toast:

(P.S. "Big bucks"? Bwah!...I make enough to afford food, beer and toilet paper, not necessarily in that order... ;) )

(...and cat food, of course...)

11. Starting with Ted pretty much sets the tone
After that, how divisive would anyone want to be? I think (hope) this will lead to nearly unanimous enthusiasm and commitment through the rest of the convention.

12. Jesus H. Christ, what did you expect?
Caroline Kennedy

Ted Kennedy

Jimmy Carter

Nancy Pelosi

Craig Robinson

Claire McCaskill

Michelle Obama and the kids

Joe Biden in the house

It WAS a great lead-in to Barack's acceptance speech.

Bullshit. What plan would YOU have had for this night?

Come on, now. This was a great night for Democrats, and it sure as hell wasn't a waste. I was impressed.

16. William Pitt is correct. Think of this as a Beethoven Symphony
A rousing first movement, a slower second movement, a forceful third movement,
leading into a climaxing fourth movement.

The Clintons will have their say, and Hillary gets her chance to be a team player
or a less-than-enthusiastic play-along. I suspect the former. A 58-Democrat Senate
goes nowhere if McCain veotes everything. Hillary can rise to the top of the heap
if she makes a President Obama happen. She is not stupid and neither is Bill, no
matter how many "could-have-beens" will run through their heads this week.

Biden will absolutely rock the place Wednesday, and Obama will bring it to a thundering
crescendo Thursday. This was choreographed better that A Chorus Line.
