We're losing a liberal radio talk host this week
:-(. Lynn Cullen (in Pittsburgh) has been terminated from her spot on WPTT radio. This is her last week and you can listen live now. Her show is on 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon ET. I don't know if she has any other offers, but this is a big loss for the Pittsburgh listening audience.

4. We're so outnumbered on the radio....it's pitiful
I really hope Lynn finds a spot, even if it isn't in Pgh.

10. Amen to that. I was hoping Rush would take a fall on the drug charges, but he gets a pass while...
Bernie gets set up by the RW hatemasters.

3. WPTT is going to a "business format"
Here's the article in the Post Gazette:

I'm listening to her now. She seems to be okay with it. I think she must have some offers/ideas for her future employment....it's a huge loss :-(.

5. More Cheap Channel "Consolidation"
I've heard Lynn...C-SPAN used to put cameras in the studio during her show...and yes, her loss is a big loss, especially for the folks of Pittsburgh. I had long thought she needed a bigger platform and maybe this will free her to find something bigger and better.

She worked for Cheap Channel...now a subsidiary of the Carlisle Group...who is once again cutting costs to stop the loss of revenues (their stock price is nearing wallpaper status) and further ruining the radio industry I once loved so dearly. It's a lot cheaper to plug in a satellite and some right wing asshat than to pay for the talents to bring diversity and locality to the public airwaves.

7. We need her here to provide some balance to the right wing
blowhards (syndicated and local), but I think she deserves a larger audience and I really hope she gets the opportunity :-).

She brought in the most revenue to that channel of any of the other hosts.

8. She Probably Wanted To Get Paid, Too
Jerry Del Colliano does a great job going into all the financial and political games being played at Cheap Channel and other radio companies:

http://insidemusicmedia.blogspot.com/

Here's how screwed up things are...the fact she did bring in revenue was probably her downfall. More money means she was either currently or could possibly get "too expensive"...that she'd want more money in a time when this company is expecting, yes expecting, talent to take pay cuts...and those who don't and just want to make the same are not "team players". The "mindset" is that the talent isn't responsible for the ratings or revenues...a Sales Manager or General Manager will always claim it was their "genius" that made the money..."talent" is always an expense, never a real asset.

Yes, the blowhards dominate the airwaves as repugnican operatives and friendly companies like Cheap Channel, Sinclair, Salem and others saw both money and perks from this relationship. The format draws one of the few "milkable" audiences to the dying AM band...white males. Sports talk goes after one segment, hate radio goes after the other. This way they can get money from stiffie drugs, bars, strip clubs and fly-by-night stock peddlers. The GOOP championed the "de-regulations" that put billions in their pockets and fear Democrats (specifically FCC Comissioners Copps and Adelman) as wanting to end their monopolies.

17. Actually she didn't work for Clear Channel
WPTT is a locally owned station in Pittsburgh by Renda Broadcasting. They own two other Pittsburgh stations oldies WJAS-AM and AC WSHH-FM. I don't think this is as biased as it might appear. The station has been very low performing in the ratings overall. Granted Lynn's show was the highest rated but nonetheless it was pretty low. They also had Thom Hartmann on from 12noon to 3PM so it was six hours of progressive talk per day. Cullen has been on there for many years now. So in defense of Renda I don't think it was the old man who just decided he hated liberals or something.

6. I use to enjoy listening to Nicole Sandler at 940Winz
She's been replaced with Don Imus. Last week they had guest hosts during her spot. They said they were filling in for her. Yesterday Don Imus was in her spot.

12. I am very sorry
we lost all of our liberal voice when Clear Channel switched our liberal station KLSD to a loser sports station - YES LOSER. Liberal KLSD was making money - Stupid Sports KLSD is losing money.

We have one three hour show a day now - from 3 to 6 - that's it. We are very happy to have Stacy Taylor for those 3 hours.

Sorry for your loss. It sucks.

13. Thanks Gilligan
:hi: I moved back home to PA from Oceanside and of course listened to KLSD while living there. Stacy is a good guy and yeah, you're lucky to have him.

Lynn was dropped from one station ten years (she spent ten years there too) and now this.

15. That's damned sad!
We'll continue to see this until we get some relief from the consolidation of radio station licenses in the hands of a few corporations that was facilitated under Bill Clinton in 1996.

Simply put, we need divestiture of license ownership in the public airwaves.

We also need to maximize the future of radio, i.e. the internet.

16. Does anyone archive her show via podcast?
I've never heard her before; I'd like to give it a listen, but rarely have time to stream this stuff in real-time.
