Idaho Hallmark stores not allowing homosexual cardsCharlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 8/26/2008 11:30:00 AM
Idaho has sent a message to Hallmark about its intent to sell homosexual union greeting cards.
Idaho Values Alliance (IVA) pointed out to its members that the cards are contrary to the principles of most Christians because of the biblical prohibition against homosexual conduct. IVA spokesman Bryan Fischer says the owner of seven Hallmark outlets in Idaho has said no to the company.
"Because of his own convictions – which are shaped by the Judeo/Christian value system – he will not stock these cards, (and says he) would not have stocked these cards under any circumstances because they are contrary to the values that he wants to be represented in their stores," Fischer explains.
Members of the Idaho activist group were also urged to contact the manager of one of the stores who said the phone rang constantly for two days. "She told me that they had a tough time getting business done because they heard from so many pro-family Idahoans urging them not to stock those cards," Fischer says.
He adds their efforts can be duplicated elsewhere in the country if people will take the initiative.
According to a published news report, a Hallmark spokesperson stated the company's "coming out" cards, which hit stores last year -- and the new same-sex "wedding" cards, brought into circulation following the landmark California Supreme Court ruling legalizing homosexual "marriage" -- are intended to help the company be "as relevant as possible to as many people as we can."
