Idaho Hallmark owner refuses to sell gay marriage/civil union cards....Fundie bigots rejoice!
from the "news" service of the American Family Association:

Idaho Hallmark stores not allowing homosexual cards
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 8/26/2008 11:30:00 AM

Idaho has sent a message to Hallmark about its intent to sell homosexual union greeting cards.

Idaho Values Alliance (IVA) pointed out to its members that the cards are contrary to the principles of most Christians because of the biblical prohibition against homosexual conduct. IVA spokesman Bryan Fischer says the owner of seven Hallmark outlets in Idaho has said no to the company.

"Because of his own convictions – which are shaped by the Judeo/Christian value system – he will not stock these cards, (and says he) would not have stocked these cards under any circumstances because they are contrary to the values that he wants to be represented in their stores," Fischer explains.

Members of the Idaho activist group were also urged to contact the manager of one of the stores who said the phone rang constantly for two days. "She told me that they had a tough time getting business done because they heard from so many pro-family Idahoans urging them not to stock those cards," Fischer says.

He adds their efforts can be duplicated elsewhere in the country if people will take the initiative.

According to a published news report, a Hallmark spokesperson stated the company's "coming out" cards, which hit stores last year -- and the new same-sex "wedding" cards, brought into circulation following the landmark California Supreme Court ruling legalizing homosexual "marriage" -- are intended to help the company be "as relevant as possible to as many people as we can."

2. I find irony that all those Idaho delegates have to go to the convention thru MSP
I wonder if they'll stop by the Larry Craig Memorial bathroom stall for a dump and a tap?

6. Of course they aren't going to stock them!
The ENTIRE Hallmark Company as a whole is Christian-based. They won't tell you this as a customer and will only let you become aware of this when you become an employee. Managers are urged to hire based on "overall good-quality appearance and values based on what the Hall family has worked so hard to represent over the past 100 years." The Hall family (yes, they are still alive and are much like the Waltons of Wal-mart) is a deeply religious family, so pointing the blame on ONE store owner in Idaho just doesn't cut it. I had a coworker who came out and admitted she was a Jew to our manager, and her hours were immediately cut from 40 hours a week to 10. She lost all her benefits and was forced to leave, she was unable to pay her mortgage. Dare I mention my atheism, I'd have been fired on the spot.
Pay attention during holiday time when you go into their stores, look at their merchandise. Each and every year, the Hanukkah items dwindle, the Kwaanza items now extinct and the employees send you on your way with a Merry Christmas! nevermind the fact that you may celebrate Christmas only as an excuse to buy cool stuff and decorate your house (if at all). In our store we'd have been sent home if Happy Holidays came out of our mouths.
